Chapter 66: The Sunny Garden
In the past, during this time of day, Shi Qingqing would go to the school’s logistics department to work part-time, helping the staff feed the pigs for ten yuan an hour, to help support her family.
Now, Shi Qingqing no longer wanted to continue with that job.
She planned to properly join a student club; on the one hand, she could learn something, but more importantly, she was looking for a group with either a lot of people or a lot of wealthy students—making it easier to snatch red envelopes in the future.
She dragged Zhang Xiaotu along to look for clubs.
At the school’s community activity center, there were introductions to all kinds of clubs available to join.
Since it was still early in the semester, most clubs were recruiting new members.
There was a literature club, a calligraphy club, singing and dance groups, taekwondo, basketball, soccer, recitation, reading, leaf-vein handicrafts, computer club, swimming, skating, various music ensembles, debate, COLY, sports, arts, foreign languages, choir, badminton, roller skating, mountaineering, comics... more than one could count.
It was dazzling just to look at them.
The crowd was thick, and Zhang Xiaotu and Shi Qingqing followed along in the flow of people, holding flyers and studying their options.
“Qingqing, which club are you thinking of joining?”
Shi Qingqing pointed at the Tea Gathering Club...
“This one. I think it suits my taste quite well.”
Zhang Xiaotu glanced at the member list, skipped over the name of the club president, and went straight to the top members: Zhan Su, Shen Mingxuan, Rong Ruizhe...
She smiled knowingly, “It suits my taste too. Imagine spending every day with the most handsome guys on campus, drinking tea and chatting away—life would be too good to be true...”
Zhang Xiaotu giggled for a moment, then added, “It’s a shame, though. Not only does this club require a ninety-nine-thousand-yuan entry fee, but you also have to be a master of tea ceremony, able to brew at least ten kinds of rare teas, and bring your own expensive tea leaves. You know, some of those teas cost tens or even hundreds of thousands per liang. Even if I sold my whole family, we probably wouldn’t qualify for this club.”
Shi Qingqing had only mentioned it in passing; the world of the wealthy wasn’t something they could enter just because they wanted to.
She pointed at another note on the club’s flyer. “Don’t overthink it—this club only accepts students from the Qingyuan campus.”
Zhang Xiaotu shrugged. “The Tea Gathering Club is at Qingyuan too? Well, let’s forget about it. We can’t even get into Qingyuan.”
Only students with platinum badges were allowed to enter and leave Qingyuan freely.
People like Shi Qingqing and Zhang Xiaotu, who couldn’t even afford school uniforms, hadn’t received their badges yet.
At Qingming, they were only considered half-day students at best.
And with Zhan Su around, it would be even more stressful.
She had only mentioned it casually, after all.
“Hey, Qingqing, where are you going?” Zhang Xiaotu was still browsing the clubs. If they couldn’t break into the platinum badge world, a club with lots of gold badge members would do just fine.
She saw Shi Qingqing walking ahead of her.
“I’m going to check out the club location map,” Shi Qingqing replied, arriving in front of the main building, where a map stood upright.
“You should pick a club first; there’s no rush to look at the map. Why are you choosing by location?” Zhang Xiaotu complained.
Shi Qingqing shot her a look that said, “You just don’t get it.”
“All right, then. I’ll just join the calligraphy club,” Shi Qingqing said, pointing at a small spot right in the center.
It was practically at the heart of all the clubs; within a five-hundred-meter radius, she’d have access to countless clubs—perfect for snatching red envelopes, heh heh...
“Pfft! Qingqing, are you really going to join the ancient calligraphy club? Even a dance or performance club would be more fun! Besides, I’ve never seen you show any interest in calligraphy before!” Zhang Xiaotu laughed.
