Chapter 125: Obtaining the Marriage Certificate

The burden weighing on Zhou Lichuan’s heart was plucked out so casually by Jiang Zao, shaken three times in the spring breeze, and then tossed aside without a care as to whether it returned to its original place. She herself simply turned and walked away, completely unconcerned.
Ah… Being teased so wickedly by his beloved wife only made him love her more…
The next morning.
Zhou Lichuan got up and began washing, wandering around the bedroom with a toothbrush between his teeth as he inspected his own home.
Awakened by the buzzing of the electric toothbrush, Jiang Zao watched him stand by the window, brushing his teeth while poking the leaves of the plants there with one finger. She began to worry about whether the intelligence of the child in her womb would meet the required standard.
“You don’t need to go to the office this morning.”
Zhou Lichuan looked over in confusion. Not long ago, she had still been urging him to work diligently and not squander his future. Had some immortal finally enlightened her today? His beloved wife was actually not sending him to the office?
Jiang Zao turned over and slowly sat up. “Bring your identification card and come with me to the Civil Affairs Bureau. We’re getting our marriage certificate.”
“Hm? Hm?! Hm?!”
Zhou Lichuan let out three successive cries of astonished delight, but the foam filling his mouth blocked his voice.
Jiang Zao looked at him with some distaste. “Rinse your mouth before you speak. Is Du Bin picking you up today, or is it another driver? You’re supposed to inspect the site in South City, right? Going this afternoon should still be in time.”
Zhou Lichuan’s eyes instantly lit up. He nodded furiously.
He dashed to the bathroom to rinse his mouth, then changed clothes and eagerly pulled Jiang Zao toward the garage.
The driver was already waiting there. Upon receiving Zhou Lichuan’s instructions, he stepped on the accelerator and headed straight for the Civil Affairs Bureau.
Two hours later, Jiang Zao stood outside the bureau, holding the red booklet in her hand and staring blankly at the freshly stamped seal.
She had never imagined that she would become Zhou Lichuan’s wife so quickly.
The smile had never left Zhou Lichuan’s face. From the moment he received the marriage certificate, his smug expression seemed to have been welded permanently into place.
Back in the car, Jiang Zao looked at the still-grinning Zhou Lichuan. “The two of us haven’t signed a prenuptial agreement yet.”

Zhou Lichuan’s smile vanished at once, replaced by a thoroughly guarded expression. “You’re having second thoughts? You can’t. We’re legally married now, and I won’t agree to a divorce.”
Jiang Zao fell silent. For one brief moment, she wondered whether she had acted too rashly.
Being married to such a love-struck business tycoon might not make life easy in the future.
After putting away the marriage certificate, Jiang Zao instructed the driver to stop at a convenience store and buy some sweets as wedding candy, which they would distribute to the household staff when they returned home.
The driver stopped outside the convenience store and got out to buy the candy, leaving the newlyweds sitting blankly in the car.
Jiang Zao’s gaze fell on Zhou Lichuan’s wrist, and only then did she notice that he had removed the watch he usually wore and replaced it with the most expensive one in his dressing room—a Patek Philippe worth eight figures. His sharply tailored formal suit was also entirely different from what he normally wore to work. To match the tie clip Jiang Zao had bought him, he had deliberately chosen a dark tie and a vintage-style suit jacket.
So even someone like Zhou Lichuan, who could remain expressionless while Mount Tai collapsed before him, would still unconsciously dress up for an occasion he considered important.
Jiang Zao shifted her gaze and smiled at the driver approaching with a large bag of candy.
“Come home early after work tonight. I’ll have Sister Hui make some of your favorite dishes.”
The look Zhou Lichuan directed at Jiang Zao grew increasingly ardent, while he ignored the approaching driver entirely.
“Zaozao, do you know how happy I am right now? I’ve lived for more than thirty years, and I’ve never been this happy before.”
Jiang Zao smiled back at him. “I know, because I’m happy too.”
Getting married and obtaining their marriage certificate was such a momentous thing, yet they had decided it as casually as if they were simply going out for a meal.
Jiang Zao was lively and carefree, doing whatever came to mind. But Zhou Lichuan had grown up immersed in wealth and power, and he had actually dared to think of nothing at all and simply go register their marriage.
Anyone would have found it inconceivable.
The driver placed the candy in the trunk, took his seat behind the wheel, and started the car again, driving them home.
Sitting in the spacious back seat, Zhou Lichuan reached out and pulled Jiang Zao into his arms, burying his face against her neck and breathing in the delicate fragrance of her soft warmth.
They said nothing throughout the journey. Only their tightly clasped hands conveyed a quiet tenderness to each other.

Jiang Zao, who had risen early, was unusually sleepy and yawned countless times along the way.
When they returned to Tingshan Villa, Zhou Lichuan escorted Jiang Zao to the bedroom. After watching her settle securely beneath the covers to catch up on sleep, he reluctantly kissed her forehead, tucked the blanket around her, and left for work.
The household staff were all curious about what the young couple had gone out to do so early in the morning. Even Sister Hui could not guess. She prepared a stew of bird’s nest soup in utter bewilderment, and it was not until she accompanied Jiang Zao on a walk through the courtyard that afternoon that she learned how much had happened in a single morning.
“My goodness! You two really got your marriage certificates without telling anyone? Didn’t the gentleman even mention a prenuptial agreement or anything?”
Jiang Zao laughed as the spring breeze swept past them. “No. I said we should go register, and he followed me.”
Sister Hui looked deeply at Jiang Zao twice. “You two have finally made it through all the hardship.”
Jiang Zao lowered her head slightly. “I suppose so. Before this, I even told Tan Wenyi that since I couldn’t overcome fate, I would at least struggle against it. I suppose I’ve put those words into action.”
Sister Hui suddenly stopped walking. She gently patted Jiang Zao’s arm and said, “Zaozao, let me offer you one piece of advice from an old woman. Don’t think I’m being long-winded.”
Jiang Zao stopped as well and turned to face her. “Go ahead, Sister Hui. I won’t think you’re being long-winded.”
Sister Hui pondered for a moment before saying, “The greatest difference between marriage and dating is the difference in the price one must pay. Zaozao, you need to know what you want, and then continue striving toward it without wavering. The gentleman is a very good man, but you must never forget who you are simply because he is good. Do you understand?”
Jiang Zao bent down and leaned against her. “Sister Hui, you’re wonderful. You’re just like a mother.”
Sister Hui’s eyes grew slightly moist. “You’re going to be a mother yourself soon, so stop acting spoiled. What would you like to eat tonight? I’ll make it for you.”
Jiang Zao straightened. “Hmm… Anything is fine. Make something Zhou Lichuan likes. His company has been insanely busy lately.”
Since returning this time, Jiang Zao had rarely asked about Zhou Lichuan’s company.
Yet every change within the company still reached her ears through one channel or another. Gao Chenggong in particular came to Tingshan Villa once a week as a guest. Officially, he claimed to be visiting Zhou Lichuan, but in reality, he was there to give Jiang Zao lessons in management.
Jiang Zao of course knew that Zhou Lichuan had arranged it. Seeing the fatigue mingled with excitement on President Gao’s face, she did not rush to refuse. Amid casual conversation and homely small talk, she learned quite a bit of what Zhou Lichuan wanted her to learn.
