Chapter Ninety-Seven: The World in Shock

A cold mechanical voice faded from Gao Ning’s ears.

He could hardly believe it.

That easy?

Although the beastmen army had the advantage in numbers, their opponent was, after all, an experienced survivor with extraordinary powers. And yet he had gone down so readily?

It was unexpected, though not entirely beyond reason.

The enemy squad had simply abandoned the mission. Clearly, they had been frightened by the beastmen army.

The Red Alert cheat had never been overwhelmingly powerful to begin with.

But in this endlessly recurring world, even a modest advantage could be magnified again and again until it became a monstrous trump card. One overwhelming strike could descend like a mountain, leaving no room even to think of resistance.

Still, if the enemy squad had fled outright, might there be some additional gain to reap?

Just as the thought crossed his mind, the cold mechanical voice sounded again in his ear.

The mission was completed, granting a reward of fifteen hours.

With a current score of two, the reward was multiplied fourfold. He had obtained sixty hours of time currency.

His current time currency total was one hundred and seven hours.

The system detected that his time currency had exceeded one hundred hours and automatically fused it into an upgrade card.

The upgrade card could be used to enhance special abilities.

Time currency could be traded, used to upgrade basic skills, and used to return to the real world. The exact effects were for the passenger to discover on his own.

A flicker of insight moved through Gao Ning. So time currency could be used in this way too.

On the Red Alert map, the points representing the beastmen had already occupied more than half of Europe.

The heroine had been temporarily detained, but her power to restart the world had not been removed.

Although the number of troops he had now surpassed Gao Ning’s original expectations, he still did not want to waste the mass mutation device, that ultimate weapon in his hands.

Unfortunately, with only twenty-four hours, conquering the whole world was no simple matter.

The appearance of the beastmen army had truly shaken the world.

Military leaders from various nations gathered at top speed and convened an emergency strategic conference.

The eyewitnesses who had survived the front lines did not even have time to steady their nerves before they were brought directly to the headquarters of the allied command.

Inside a vast conference hall capable of seating more than five hundred senior officers, Drill Instructor Chimp strode forward with several of his recruits.

Sergeant Chuck French, front-line training instructor, reporting in!

With crisp precision, Drill Instructor Chimp and his men saluted.

At the round table in the front row, a large number of elderly men in all manner of military uniforms studied him briefly.

A middle-aged man in a U.S. Army uniform with the rank of lieutenant colonel on his shoulder spoke up. Sergeant French, my name is Luke. I represent the Allied Command Headquarters and will be conducting this inquiry. According to the intelligence we have received, your front-line unit engaged the newly appeared monsters head-on. Please tell us your assessment.

Drill Instructor Chimp’s expression grew grave.

His words dragged the battlefield back before his eyes in an instant. That overwhelming blue tide, that sensation of having stepped onto the battlefield of an orc tribe.

Those muscular brutes, each well over two meters tall, casually tearing apart iron creations. Whether tanks or defensive structures, anything in their hands was ripped to shreds like scrap paper. Just remembering it sent a chill through him.

He looked back at the soldiers behind him and saw that their faces were ashen as his own. His mood sank even further.

Turning back, he regarded the senior military officers in silence for a moment, then slowly said, I believe these suddenly appeared blue giants are a third party.

Lieutenant Colonel Luke asked, You mean another group of alien monsters has appeared on Earth?

The moment he said it, the entire hall erupted into unrest.

If that were true, then this would be the worst possible outcome.

The alien monsters that had appeared five years ago had still not been fully dealt with, and most of Europe had already fallen. Now, another species of monster had appeared.

It was hard to imagine how much more land humanity would lose this time.

Their much-vaunted exoskeleton armor had been as fragile as tofu before the beastmen. A mere tear from those hands could rip steel and flesh alike into pieces.

Not only that, but compared with the alien monsters, these newly appeared blue giants were several times more formidable in defense.

Small-caliber bullets could barely penetrate them. Even a hail of machine-gun fire could only leave slight wounds. Only heavy sniper rifles of enormous caliber or grenade cannons could truly hurt them.

And if they deployed heavy equipment, the blue giants would simply swarm over it and tear it to pieces.

The air force had been crippled by alien monsters, and now the army was being crippled by blue giants.

It was a scene straight from hell.

Drill Instructor Chimp continued, Though I do not know how these blue giants appeared, their purpose does not seem to be humanity.

They came here to hunt a giant wolf. Our camp had comprehensive surveillance equipment, and I have brought some of the footage.

At his gesture, Lieutenant General Luke nodded, and someone immediately connected the large screen.

Light flashed, and the images of the battle appeared.

At first, nothing unusual happened. Everyone was going about normal training.

The screen even showed Drill Instructor Chimp delivering a speech, when all at once a military vehicle burst in. Then the heroine, clad in exoskeleton armor, opened fire without the slightest hesitation, and a shell killed more than a dozen people.

The huge spider machine behind her also transformed at once into a terrifying killing machine and charged forward.

Then the image froze. A blurred figure flashed past, and a man directly transformed into a giant wolf, nimbly evading the mechanical spider’s attacks.

The giant wolf was ferocious and fast, so it managed to avoid the spider’s assaults every time. Despite the heroine maintaining constant suppressive fire, it did little to change the outcome.

The giant wolf even found time to bite several fleeing recruits.

But the moment it finished biting them, a robotic spider would suddenly appear and mercilessly cut them down.

This part of the battle left the generals solemn, though still composed. But what came next changed color on every face in the room.

All at once, a massive tide of blue giants surged in from every direction, almost instantly filling the entire barracks.

They threw themselves at the giant wolf with suicidal madness, as if completely deranged. Their minds held nothing but the thought of killing the wolf. Even ambushes from behind and tank bombardments failed to make any of them look back.

The giant wolf, too, was plunged into utter despair. It could only struggle, and struggle, and struggle again.

That sense of hopelessness and powerlessness poured through the screen,震撼ing everyone in the room to the core.
