Chapter 64: The Mighty Universal Medical Pod
Several hours later, as the three universal medical pods vanished from sight, a mechanical voice echoed simultaneously in their ears.
“Mission objective submitted. Reward: 25 hours granted.
Time currency can be used for trading, upgrading basic skills, or returning to the real world.
Explore its effects at your discretion.
Upon mission completion, only 24 hours of remaining stay time are left; you may return at any moment during this period.
Would you like to return now?”
Gao Ning pressed ‘No’ and finally looked up at the other two.
Zhou Banshen’s face blossomed into a grin. “That’s it? Mission accomplished? That was way too easy!”
Liang Bing, expressionless, strode toward the only remaining universal medical pod, removed her coat, and lay down inside. The device automatically activated, identified her code, then swiftly scanned her entire body.
“Facial nerve necrosis detected. Partial brain cell impairment. Bone replacement. Stomach removal. Initiating bodily reconstruction.”
The robotic arm sprayed a multitude of biological particles, which quickly fused into Liang Bing’s body. She seemed to relax completely.
“Repair complete!”
The robotic arm retracted. Liang Bing sat up, pinched her fingertips experimentally, touched her stomach, and a trace of excitement appeared in her eyes.
Gao Ning eyed her strangely. She seemed fine on the surface—who would have guessed her body was in such a dire state?
Liang Bing looked up. “I died from a failed surgery!”
Gao Ning, exasperated, replied, “I never asked you that.”
“I thought you’d be curious,” Liang Bing said awkwardly. “Anyway, I’m all set. You should go rest. This mission couldn’t have succeeded without you.”
Liang Bing nodded slightly, and her entire form instantly faded away.
Zhou Banshen jumped, startled. “What—what—what happened to her?”
“No worries! It’s your turn now. Hurry up and get in.”
At Gao Ning’s urging, Zhou Banshen bashfully slipped off his lab coat and lay down in the universal medical pod.
The robotic arm scanned up and down.
“Severe biological energy depletion detected. Blood viscosity increased. Organs damaged to varying degrees. Cells heavily oxidized. Proceed with full restoration?”
Zhou Banshen looked at Gao Ning, confused.
Gao Ning said, “Just say yes!”
“Yes!” Zhou Banshen replied hurriedly.
“Command accepted. Full restoration commencing!”
This time, the universal medical pod’s shell suddenly closed, the internal robotic arms retracted, and dozens of laser scanners appeared on either side, sweeping over Zhou Banshen’s body.
A thin layer of liquid rose rapidly from below, submerging Zhou Banshen entirely.
At first, he was a little panicked, but after the machine initiated, he quickly fell into unconsciousness.
The universal medical pod worked for over ten minutes. When the hatch finally opened and the robotic arm pulled back, a tall, fair-skinned, long-haired man slowly sat up.
Gao Ning’s eyes nearly popped out. “Who are you?”
“I’m Zhou Banshen! What’s wrong, Brother Gao? Don’t recognize me?”
The long-haired man paused, then gave a gentle smile.
Unbelievable—was he starring in a romantic drama now?
This full restoration was a bit much. Not only had he become younger, but he’d gotten a full-body makeover as well.
Only now did Zhou Banshen realize something was off. He looked at his hands, then, like a pervert, felt all over his body.
Disbelieving, he walked to the mirror and stood there, thunderstruck.
“This—is this me?”
Gao Ning replied irritably, “If it’s not you, is it a ghost? Stop gawking at yourself. I have no interest in watching a naked man. Hurry up and silently think ‘Return’!”
Zhou Banshen stared at himself, dazed. “Return!”
As soon as he spoke, he vanished in a flash.
“Finally, my turn!”
Gao Ning stripped off his clothes and jumped into the universal medical pod.
“Old Two, keep watch!”
Gao Lao’er appeared beside him, cigarette dangling from his lips, raising a hand.
Gao Ning relaxed and called out, “Begin.”
The robotic arm moved. “Detected: body fat percentage too high, blood viscosity abnormal, stomach inflammation present. Proceed with repair?”
Gao Ning thought, I actually have gastritis?
He considered, then asked, “After full restoration, will my body shape change?”
“After restoration, the user’s figure will return to standard proportions.”
“Is there an option that doesn’t alter my physique?”
A light screen projected from the robotic arm, listing a series of repair options.
Gao Ning scrolled through them, inwardly shocked. This wasn’t a medical pod—it was essentially Daichi Sibo’s legendary recombination technology.
As long as one stored memory and cognitive patterns in advance, preserved samples of brain and somatic cells, even death wouldn’t prevent the universal medical pod from printing a new copy.
Healing diseases and repairing the body was child’s play. This was a biological printer targeted at humans.
Gao Ning hesitated, then selected a different configuration.
After this mission, he would return to the real world, so changing his body shape was out. Instead, he chose to emulate Jin Bing: maximize his bones and muscles internally as much as possible.
His physique wouldn’t change outwardly, but his strength and health would be greatly improved.
It would be the kind of situation where, clothed, he’d appear just an ordinary fat man—yet once the shirt came off, he’d be a muscle beast.
“Begin!”
At Gao Ning’s command, the universal medical pod set to work. A few minutes later, Gao Ning slowly opened his eyes, suddenly sensing all his faculties heightened many times over.
His vision and hearing were inexplicably clearer.
It was like he’d been watching black-and-white films all his life, and now everything was in color. The sensory impact and shock defied description.
Gao Ning clenched his fist gently, feeling the muscles tighten in his arm.
He checked himself in the mirror. His shape hadn’t changed much, but the sharply defined contours of muscle were breathtaking.
“I’ve finally become a muscle man!”
As he reveled in this moment of destiny, the dog in the yard suddenly began trembling uncontrollably.
Its head suddenly slammed to the ground, then jerked up, its paws pounding the earth, eyes blazing red as it shouted, “Hell is empty; the demons walk among men!”
This abrupt change startled its canine playmate, who instinctively bolted far away before daring a glance back.
Jiumei appeared out of thin air, enveloping Baozi’s canine head. She instinctively flew upward, circled, then returned and habitually raised her hand.
Baozi was so frightened he urinated himself. “Wait, hold it right there! This is the Bliss Space, right? It must be the Bliss Space—nowhere else would the sky be a giant bearing! Woman, get a grip!”
Jiumei paused, looked up at the sky, glanced around, then suddenly cried, “Baozi, we did it!”
Baozi stomped angrily. “Did I need you to tell me that? I already saw the universal medical pod!”
