Chapter 131: The Newcomer Zhang Shaolong
Ye Ziwei blinked her pretty, large eyes in surprise and asked, "Has Sister Liang already completed her mission and returned to her own world?"
"Something similar, though she went to another realm of the infinite reincarnation. As for the exact details, I'm not entirely sure either, but she probably won't show up again in future missions!"
Gao Ning offered a brief explanation and sat straight down on the sofa.
"As expected, there are even higher-tier places, which is quite something to look forward to! What are the requirements to go to a place like that?"
"It requires traversing through five mission worlds and completing at least three missions. Of course, this is just a guess between Liang Bing and me; the exact specifics remain unclear! If you want to go to the Infinite City, you'll have to figure it out yourself."
Ye Ziwei murmured, "The Infinite City, you say? That is indeed a nice name."
"I just came up with it off the top of my head, let's use it as a codename for now!"
"Brother Gao's mission count should be enough by now, right? Why didn't you leave with Sister Liang?"
Gao Ning stretched and said, "Perhaps I'm just accustomed to this leisurely life without any pressing missions. It's almost time; we need to go welcome the new arrival."
Seeing that Gao Ning had no intention of delving deeper, Ye Ziwei tactfully refrained from pressing further.
The two stood up and walked into the adjacent compartment, where the newcomer had indeed already materialized.
However, this time the newcomer's entrance posture was somewhat unusual.
This fellow was neither unconscious nor lying flat on the ground; instead, he perfectly replicated the entrance posture of the Terminator. Upon hearing the sound of the door opening, he slowly stood up.
Gao Ning narrowed his eyes, inwardly praising: What a magnificent man.
This person looked to be in his forties, though well-preserved, with only a few fine lines at the corners of his eyes. His skin was a deep bronze, his temples were silvered, and his hands were rough with faint scars. His muscles were not overly bulky, yet as solid as reinforced steel. His arms had turned a deep bronze, clearly baked by the relentless sun. Standing at a full one meter ninety centimeters tall, he possessed a robust physique and well-defined musculature.
He might not look particularly imposing clothed, but in his current state, he was quite eye-catching. He belonged squarely to the category of looking slender in clothes and muscular without them.
Had Gao Ning seen this fellow before his own enhancement, he might have felt a touch of inferiority, but that was no longer necessary; the muscle blocks on his own chest were even larger than this man's.
"Someone's finally here. Brother, what is this place?"
Judging by this fellow's appearance, Ye Ziwei didn't dare to step too close. Although she had experienced a great deal and witnessed much in the previous mission realm, she still needed to maintain her public image. After all, she was still ostensibly an innocent young girl; managing not to scream out loud was already showing considerable restraint.
Ye Ziwei turned her head away directly.
Gao Ning said helplessly, "Brother, your entrance style is quite wild! Forget it, you've already watched the playback of your memories, right? Do you know what state you're in now?"
The man shook his head, "Precisely because I watched it, I'm still confused. Why did they show me a video of a car crash, playing it over and over again? Where on earth is this? I was clearly at a bathhouse, so how did I suddenly end up here just as I took a step?"
"Oh?" Gao Ning asked doubtfully, "Didn't you enter the mysterious train after dying by accident?"
"Accidental death? How is that possible! I'm in construction. I had just finished a day's work, found a place nearby to take a bath, and was just about to put my clothes back on to take my workers out for dinner, when I pushed open a door and ended up here!"
The man looked somewhat troubled, "Did I reach the end of my natural life just by taking a bath? My house and my wife are still practically brand new—are they going to benefit someone else now?"
Ye Ziwei burst out laughing.
Gao Ning remarked, "Big Brother has quite a relaxed mindset, still having the mood to joke at a time like this. When I first arrived here, my mind was an absolute blank, and it took me a long time to process anything."
The man spread his hands, "Panicking doesn't help. It's better to figure out the situation first. By the way, are there any clothes or anything? Give me one; walking around in the buff is rather embarrassing, especially since there's a young lady here!"
Gao Ning slapped his forehead, "Your entrance posture completely shocked me, I haven't quite recovered!"
Gao Ning waved his hand upward into empty space, and a white bathrobe materialized out of thin air.
The man grabbed it, put it on in a few swift motions, and then nodded in satisfaction, "Thanks. It seems this place is indeed not ordinary. Creating objects out of thin air—it doesn't look like a magic trick. This place should be worth anticipating! By the way, my name is Zhang Shaolong, what should I call you?"
"Big Brother is certainly composed! My name is Gao Ning, and this is Ye Ziwei, just graduated from high school, a genuine, bona fide beautiful maiden!"
Gao Ning ignored the side-eye Ye Ziwei threw his way and extended a hand, saying, "This isn't the place to chat. Follow me, let me briefly introduce the situation here, our mission is about to begin!"
The three of them went to the adjacent compartment and sat facing each other on the sofa.
Gao Ning tapped the coffee table, conjuring a fruit platter and tea. While sipping his tea, he casually provided a brief introduction to the rules of the mysterious train. Ye Ziwei chimed in here and there to fill in any gaps. After a few minutes of casual back-and-forth communication, Zhang Shaolong nodded with a hint of surprise.
"So this is the kind of place it is! But something isn't right. I clearly didn't die an unnatural death, so why did I appear here? Could the mysterious train have made a mistake?"
Gao Ning thought for a moment and shook his head, "Probably not, though it's hard to say for sure. You'll have to investigate that question yourself!"
Ye Ziwei raised her hand and said excitedly, "I, I have a guess!"
Zhang Shaolong said, "Let's hear it!"
"You might have been transmigrated over!"
Zhang Shaolong was stunned, "What do you mean?"
"It's about transmigration, which has been very popular on the internet lately—it's when someone dies accidentally, and their soul is resurrected inside another person's body."
Ye Ziwei's eyes shone brightly, "You might be that unlucky fellow. Nothing was wrong with you originally, but you were replaced by someone else's soul. You should have simply vanished into thin air, but instead, you were snatched straight here by the mysterious train!"
Zhang Shaolong looked at Gao Ning. Gao Ning shrugged and said, "Don't look at me. The background worlds of every one of us are different, and our cultural entertainment varies wildly. However, transmigration does exist in my world. Your situation has a slight possibility of being that, but it's not a certainty!"
Zhang Shaolong pondered for a moment and said, "If that really is the case, it might actually be a good thing. By the way, is there any way to return to my world?"
"Just consume time currency, or eliminate an adversary and drop 30-day residency cards! There might be other cards as well, though I haven't encountered them yet."
Just as Gao Ning finished saying this, the whistle of a train suddenly sounded in his ears.
"Oh, the mission is about to begin..."
