Chapter 144: Eye of the Evil Moon
"You will activate the Myriad Evils Formation, enter the sub-formation below, and then use your phantom raven to stir up the evil aura. Here is the exact method..." Koji Miyamoto explained the procedure in detail.
I walked to the center of the formation, my gaze sweeping over the corpses. These Japanese bastards all deserved to die!
As the Myriad Evils Formation activated, plumes of black smoke simultaneously spewed from the crowns of the ninety-nine corpses.
A passageway appeared before me. I stepped into it, and in an instant, my entire body was transported into the huge stone chamber of the undersea passage.
Hu Xiaoyu, who had been hiding motionlessly in a corner of the hall, was startled by the commotion. She gripped her dharma sword tightly. In this corner, the Evil Moon Eye could not detect her, but the slightest movement would instantly give her away.
Moreover, while she had eluded the Evil Moon Eye, others could easily spot her.
Seeing Hu Xiaoyu with her back to me, I breathed a sigh of relief.
Just as I was about to speak, my heart skipped a beat, and I darted forward like a ghost.
At that moment, the cyan pupil of the Evil Moon Eye opened once again. Its gaze swept across the area, and wisps of cyan smoke immediately rose from the spot where I had just been standing.
Activating my Netherworld Ghost Steps, my body dissolved into a series of illusions, narrowly dodging the malevolent gazes by a hair's breadth.
However, I soon noticed that the gazes shooting from the pupil of the Evil Moon Eye were becoming increasingly dense, and beam after beam remained solidified rather than dispersing.
If this continued, I would be hit soon.
In the massive hall, only the tiny patch of ground where Hu Xiaoyu stood was safe. This girl truly was sharp; if it were me, I might not have been able to find that safe spot in such a short time.
Leaving behind rows of afterimages, my real body lunged fiercely toward Hu Xiaoyu.
Sensing someone approaching from behind, Hu Xiaoyu gritted her teeth, raised her sword, and prepared to turn around. But at that exact moment, a familiar voice sounded by her ear.
"Xiao Yu, are you trying to murder your husband?"
Hu Xiaoyu froze on the spot. It was Qin Feng's voice!
Taking advantage of her momentary stun, I lunged directly at her, pressing tightly against her body.
"You..." Hu Xiaoyu gritted her pearly whites. It was impossible for Qin Feng to appear here; it had to be an illusion.
"It's me. You heard correctly," I whispered softly in her ear.
Hu Xiaoyu's tensed body relaxed slightly. She felt the warm breath blowing against her ear and caught the familiar scent on my body. If it were an illusion, it couldn't possibly feel this real.
And so, the two of us pressed tightly together.
If someone were to simply look at us, they might find the scene romantic and sweet.
However, widening the visual scope a bit to reveal the terrifying piles of corpses surrounding us would instantly transform the romance into a horror movie.
Cradled in my arms, Hu Xiaoyu momentarily forgot the environment we were in.
Echoing in her ear was the firm promise this man had made from outside the barrier when she was trapped here: *Wait for me, I will definitely come back to save you.*
Now, he had fulfilled it.
Normally, she was a person whose rationality outweighed her emotions, but ever since she met this guy, it had completely reversed.
"Xiao Yu, listen to me..." I murmured in her ear.
"Ah? What did you say?" Hu Xiaoyu snapped back to reality and asked.
Speechless, I repeated our current situation and what we needed to do.
"This Myriad Evils Formation was truly set up by the Miyamoto family?" Hu Xiaoyu said, gritting her teeth in anger.
"Let's not worry about that for now. Once I control this Evil Moon Eye, we'll blast our way out. Koji Miyamoto doesn't have a single senior Onmyoji by his side right now. We'll slaughter him directly to avenge our compatriots who died such tragic deaths," I said sternly.
"Then what should we do?" Hu Xiaoyu asked.
Initially, Koji Miyamoto believed I was Heisha, whose phantom raven could stir the evil aura and cut off the Evil Moon Eye.
The problem was, I was not Heisha.
After a moment of thought, I whispered a few words into Hu Xiaoyu's ear.
"Alright, I'll go draw the Evil Moon Mask's attention," Hu Xiaoyu said.
"Be careful," I gently patted Hu Xiaoyu.
With a blushing face, Hu Xiaoyu glared at me and whispered, "I'll settle accounts with you after we get out."
I blinked, only then realizing that I seemed to have just patted Hu Xiaoyu's butt. No wonder the touch felt so good.
With that, Hu Xiaoyu broke free from my embrace and suddenly shot forward like lightning.
The pupil of the Evil Moon Eye snapped open, sweeping a wave of tangible, malevolent gazes across the space.
I narrowed my eyes, waiting for the opportunity.
After waiting for a dozen seconds, I suddenly darted out. Wherever my figure passed, the space itself seemed to tear apart.
In the blink of an eye, I rushed up to the upper Cyan Talisman Formation and reached out to grab the Evil Moon Eye.
Just then, sensing the danger, the Evil Moon Eye abandoned its pursuit of Hu Xiaoyu, shooting a gaze directly at me from close range.
*Whoosh.*
The gaze pierced through my body, and my form instantly froze before shattering into countless fragments.
It was merely an afterimage...
The next second, my large hand pressed firmly onto the Evil Moon Eye, and I began attempting to control it using the method Koji Miyamoto had taught me.
However, faint, furious roars echoed from within the Evil Moon Eye, and a massive wave of malevolent counter-energy surged back.
Veins bulged on my forehead and neck as I roared repeatedly, abruptly wrenching the eye out of the Cyan Talisman Formation.
Before I could even catch my breath, the Evil Moon Eye thrashed violently, breaking free from my control.
Simultaneously, the pupil frantically fired countless malevolent gazes in all directions.
Hu Xiaoyu gasped and dodged, her defensive dharma treasures self-detonating to barely block a couple of beams. As she moved, her foot collided with a lingering, unvanished malevolent gaze, and her entire leg was instantly petrified and frozen in place.
When the Evil Moon Eye lunged at her through the air, every hair on her body stood on end.
Suddenly, the Evil Moon Eye projected a cyan ray of light directly at her.
At that exact moment, I materialized out of thin air, slamming my hand directly onto the Evil Moon Eye to block the beam. My hand petrified instantly.
"Damn it, I refuse to believe I can't tame you!" Channeling all my spiritual power, I drove the Blood Fiend Blade straight into the Evil Moon Eye with my other hand, churning it relentlessly.
The cyan light in the eye's pupil faded, but with lightning speed, it suddenly plunged directly into the center of my brow.
A sharp pain flared between my eyebrows. I reached up to touch the spot, but felt nothing.
Where was the Evil Moon Eye? I had clearly felt it drill into my brow.
Forget it, there was no time to dwell on it.
At that moment, the petrification on my arm slowly faded.
Across from me, Hu Xiaoyu's petrified leg also returned to normal.
Our eyes met, and both of us broke into smiles.
"Are you alright?" we asked in unison.
Hu Xiaoyu rolled her eyes at me, a trace of sweet warmth welling up in her heart.
I looked around at the mountain of piled corpses and said in a deep voice, "Now, it's time for revenge."
Radiating killing intent, Hu Xiaoyu nodded firmly.
In the upper stone chamber, Koji Miyamoto was waiting anxiously.
"Heisha-kun, please succeed," Koji Miyamoto prayed silently. He had placed all his bets on Heisha; if this failed, his standing within the Miyamoto family would be in serious jeopardy.
At that moment, the black fog of the Myriad Evils Formation suddenly parted, and I stepped out from the passageway.
"Heisha-kun, you did it, you..." Koji Miyamoto trembled with excitement. His dream was about to come true; once he took control of the Miyamoto family, he would surely lead them to their peak.
Before he could finish his daydream, however, he noticed a woman standing beside me, and it felt as though a basin of ice water had been dumped over his head.
"Yes, Young Master Miyamoto, I did it. So, go die, and serve as burial companions for the thousands of Chinese people who died at your hands." My voice was laden with frost, every single word squeezed out from between my clenched teeth.
"Heisha, you really are courting death! Did you seriously think you could turn the tables on me? Look at what this is!" Koji Miyamoto said fiercely, suddenly producing a jade plaque in his hand.
"A soul plaque," I said indifferently.
"As long as you know! I got this from Young Master Shang. I originally planned to groom you, but you've disappointed me too much. So, go to hell!" A red flash sparked on Koji Miyamoto's hand as he shattered the plaque.
However, I stood there completely unharmed, crossing my arms and sneering at Koji Miyamoto.
That belonged to Heisha, not me, you moron!
