Chapter 120: Refusing to Be a Servant

The young woman of the Underworld race caught sight of the Four-Eyed Underworld Fox in my hands; her initial pleasant surprise quickly curdled into rage.

"You damned slave, how dare you hurt it! I shall have your cur’s life for this." Millie glared at me, seeing me holding the creature she had been longing for so desperately, and upon noticing the miserable, swollen bumps on the fox's head, she flew into a fury. She extended her hand, and a slender, pitch-black bone sword materialized, which she thrust directly toward me.

I immediately hoisted the Four-Eyed Underworld Fox up to shield myself. Millie was startled and hastily pulled back her attack.

"Millie, don't lower yourself to his level. You know how cunning the Four-Eyed Underworld Fox is; capturing it alive was no easy feat," Sugge urged, trying to placate her.

Millie shot me a venomous look and spat, "You cur of a slave, give the fox to me at once."

Damn her. Calling me a slave—someday, she would realize who the true slave was. When that time came, I would ravish her before killing her, then ravish her again and finish the job. I wondered if Underworld women were any different in bed...

I quickly shook these wicked thoughts away. My ego was getting out of hand; I had only just infiltrated the Spirit City, and here I was, already dreaming of violating the City Lord’s only daughter. Survival and establishing a foothold had to be the priority.

I tossed the fox to Millie, but it twisted in mid-air and landed back on my shoulder.

"A blood contract? You... you cur of a slave, you actually dared to..." Millie froze. She looked closer, and her expression shifted instantly.

Sugge also wore a look of astonishment, his gaze turning fervent as he stared at the fox. He, too, realized that the creature had voluntarily entered into a blood contract with me. In the Underworld, only beasts possessing ancient lineages could initiate such a bond; this meant the fox was far from ordinary.

"Sugge, I want this slave," Millie said to him.

"You mean Breton? That won't do. He is my right-hand man," Sugge replied immediately. However, his tone shifted quickly, "But, if my dear sister could help me secure a squad of Heavy-Armored Underworld Guards from Father, then I might be willing to part with him."

"A squad? You’re dreaming. Two at most," Millie scoffed.

"Two it is," Sugge agreed hastily, as if afraid she might change her mind. In his eyes, while I had some ability, I was far less valuable than a Heavy-Armored Underworld Guard. To trade me for two was a bargain he couldn't pass up.

I was speechless. To these two siblings, I was merely a commodity to be bartered.

"Breton, from now on, you are Millie’s guard," Sugge told me.

I remained silent, cursing inwardly and wondering if I should seek an opportunity to bolt. The City Lord’s daughter was clearly not a master who would be easy to serve.

Sugge left with his guards, leaving only Millie, her two handmaidens, and, of course, me. Millie stepped forward and snatched the fox from my shoulder.

Then, she let out a strange, guttural cry.

Suddenly, a gust of wind swept by, carrying a ferocious aura, and a tiger-like Underworld beast, standing five or six meters tall, appeared before us. I instinctively drew my blade, my heart leaping into my throat. However, I soon realized my anxiety was misplaced; there was a cushioned canopy on the beast's back—it was clearly a domesticated mount.

As expected, the beast lay down tamely, and Millie and her two handmaidens climbed aboard.

"You, just follow behind," Millie said, sitting in the canopy as she tossed the command at me.

The beast rose and bounded away, covering dozens of meters in a single leap, disappearing from my sight in the blink of an eye.

"Go ahead, then. Follow you? I’d like to live a few more days, thanks," I muttered to myself, turning in the opposite direction.

But before I had gone far, the roar of the beast echoed, and it returned, leaping over my head to block my path.

"You cur of a slave, wasn't I clear about you following behind?" Millie demanded furiously.

"I am a guard, not a slave. If you want a slave, go find someone else," I said coldly.

Millie seemed to have heard the funniest joke in the world. A guard was a slave—wasn't that a matter of course?

"Are you looking to die?" Millie asked.

"Many people have wanted me dead, but I’m still standing, and those who wished for my demise have mostly met miserable ends." I lifted my chin, looking at her with an arrogant, unyielding gaze—I gave myself a mental round of applause for the performance.

The two handmaidens beside Millie felt their eyes glow with a faint cyan light, ready to strike, but Millie held them back.

"Let me have some fun with him. You two, watch the fox." Millie jumped down from the beast's back and raised her hand, from which a slender bone sword sprouted.

My pupils contracted as I felt a terrifying aura radiating from her.

*Swish.*

A cyan light flickered over her blade, and in an instant, she unleashed a dozen sword shadows. I dodged rapidly, but the shadows converged into a cyan sigil formation, closing in on me. I felt a jolt of alarm and slashed out with my Blood-Slayer Blade.

*Boom.*

The formation shattered, and I lunged at Millie, stepping with the Ghost-Step of the Underworld. Millie’s eyes widened, seeing only the intense, murderous intent in mine. For a split second, she felt as if she had been dragged into a mountain of corpses in a sea of blood.

She regained her senses, her bone sword spinning as cyan patterns flared, thrusting toward my chest.

*Pfft.*

That was the sound of the blade piercing flesh. Yet, almost simultaneously, she felt a piercing pain in her head like a needle, and my blade grazed her neck.

*Clang.*

My blade was parried by one of the handmaidens. It was only then that I realized both of Millie’s attendants were high-level Underworld practitioners.

I retreated a few steps, a hole gouged in my left arm. Millie recovered, touching her neck to find a thin, bleeding cut. Had the handmaiden not intervened, she would likely be dead. She stared at me, her gaze lingering on my calm face and indifferent eyes, and her heart skipped a beat.

She suddenly felt that a man like this was never meant to be a slave, nor could he ever be one; he was meant to be this untamable.

"What... what is your name?" Millie asked.

"Breton," I replied coolly.

"Breton, come back with me. I won't kill you," she said.

"If it means being a slave, you might as well kill me. But if you want me dead, you’ll have to pay the price," I said coldly.

"No... you don't have to be a slave. Just be my personal guard," Millie said hurriedly. For some reason, she suddenly felt an urge to keep this man by her side.

I climbed into the canopy. One of the handmaidens began to treat my wound. Both were high-level practitioners, and their features were actually quite beautiful, though I still struggled to appreciate their cyan skin and the markings on their faces.

"You have Night Demon blood, don't you?" the handmaiden asked.

I was slightly stunned. Night Demon blood? Was it because of the faint purple tint in my blood? That was the effect of my disguise artifact; it had absorbed the flesh and soul of an Underworld practitioner, so I was effectively borrowing his identity, aura, and even his lineage.

"Don't worry. Although the Night Demon was the previous Lord of the Territory, the bloodline he left behind is countless. Many nobles now possess a faint trace of it. No one cares," she said, her voice gentle.

So that was it.

"Thank you, sister. May I ask your name?" I asked, unable to stop myself from flirting.

Hearing me call her sister, she laughed. "I don't have a name, only a designation. You can call me Qing, and she is Lü."

I gathered that these two were death-servants raised by the Raphael family since childhood. I was always good with women, and soon enough, I was chatting and laughing with them.

At that moment, Millie, who had been half-reclining in the front while cradling the fox, suddenly whipped her head around and glared at us coldly. Qing and Lü immediately stopped smiling and fell silent.

I raised an eyebrow. "Are we not allowed to talk?"

Millie was about to lash out at me, but recalling my temper, she forcibly suppressed it. "No."

"Then why are you looking so fierce? You’ve frightened Sister Qing and Sister Lü into silence," I said.

Millie opened her mouth, but found herself at a loss for words. She turned away in a huff, sulking. She didn't even know why she hadn't dared to lose her temper at this man. Besides, she hadn't even started being fierce yet—what right did he have to say she was? And to make matters worse, he was laughing and joking with the handmaidens while acting cold toward her.
