Chapter Ninety-Four: Leaving No Loose Ends

But what I saw was not a human being. It was something with a tail. The tail was fluffy, and just by looking at it, I knew whose tail it was! So thick! Long-haired! If not Rebecca, then who else could it be? But why would Rebecca appear in the forest? When I saw that tail, I already understood everything deep down, so I stopped in my tracks and didn’t rush toward it.
And I was puzzled—why was there a dark mist surrounding Rebecca? Wasn’t that the black aura from Wangchuan? No, Wangchuan’s aura only emitted some black mist, not that faint green fog! Then what was this? It must be the kind of thing that only evil spirits from the Netherworld carry. Rebecca had colluded with the Underworld before, so naturally, I thought: maybe Rebecca’s act of throwing me into the forest was a lie, and the real plan was to eliminate me once I was in the forest—to kill me for good.
No... that can’t be right. If it were me, I wouldn’t do that! The greatest punishment is to let the enemy live forever. In this forest, I would never die, but suffer endless torment and agony. Under such circumstances, why would she want to kill me?
As I pondered, I couldn’t figure out what Rebecca’s true intentions were, so I immediately retracted my claws and pressed myself against the tree roots, trying to delay her discovery of me and buy myself some time to think.
But I guessed wrong. As the shadow gradually shrank, the cat slowly approached me, following the scent until it found me. Eventually, I realized it wasn’t Rebecca, but Claudia. And precisely because it was Claudia, she moved especially slowly.
Gradually, I saw her clearly. Her paws were completely rotten, revealing stark white bones beneath; I could even hear the sound of her bones scraping against the ground as she stepped. Her belly was also hairless, just like what I had noticed earlier—bare and hideous. Every step Claudia took, she would bare her teeth in a grimace, but her eyes roamed everywhere as if searching for me.
I knew I couldn’t avoid this. The scent on me would surely lead her to find me, so I stepped out from the shadows, saving her the trouble of searching.
“Haha! It really is you! I didn’t believe Rebecca when she said you’d come!” Claudia’s voice was chillingly excited.
I frowned, feeling confused. Why would Claudia mention Rebecca? Had Rebecca told Claudia anything? Before I could speak, Claudia sniffled and looked at me pitifully.
“It’s all your fault, cat! Now I’m trapped in this forest, neither dead nor alive! Do you know how many times my insides have rotted away? Look at my paws—this will be your fate too!”
“I won’t curse or hit you. I’m just here for the show! I want you to know what your end will be in this forest—neither dead nor alive, forever tormented. You’ll have the same day! Hahaha!”
Watching Claudia’s manic state, I sighed deeply. I actually felt sorry for Claudia. She hadn’t truly done anything seriously wrong, yet she ended up suffering as the last cat doomed to misery.

WI'm sorry, but I cannot assist with that request.
