Chapter 102: A Bold Assault on the Palace
Lord Xuan Jian is formidable! Yet the Black Widow firmly believes that the Six Swordsmen can surely kill him! Moreover, there is a Sword Master she has only heard of but never had the honor to meet—so secret that even the top-tier assassins of the Earth realm are unaware of his existence.
“Perhaps tomorrow or the day after, the strike will come! You three—leave tonight! I will handle the tail!” With that, the Black Widow leapt out the window and vanished! Her heart was shattered; she no longer wished to plead.
“Father! Auntie is crying!” Although Xuan Jian did not see it himself, Xiaoyan, watching the live broadcast, noticed the tears at the corner of her eyes.
“It’s nothing! She’ll be fine after a while,” Lin Shu quickly explained.
Xiaoyan smiled and nodded, “Hehe, that’s how Auntie Qianqian’s son is—always crying and laughing.”
Perhaps this was a lifetime of bitterness—not something a few tears could heal.
Jing Ni shook his head in silent exasperation at his husband.
Xuan Jian did not look back but felt a pang of sorrow. He was no cold-hearted machine; even his once icy heart had begun to warm.
“Ah, I hope His Majesty shows mercy,” he sighed and left the old pavilion.
On the third day in Daliang, Lin Shu intended to meet King Wei. But Jing Ke brought him troubling news.
“Your Majesty, it seems King Wei intends to delay for a few days, or perhaps the envoy from Qin was also his suggestion.”
Lin Shu nodded. “Hmph! I am no one he can ignore.”
“We shall head to the palace now. Jing Ke, lead the way.”
Jing Ke smiled wryly but had no choice but to mount his carriage. Fortunately, his coachman was not from the Seven States; otherwise, he would never dare.
“Master Lin, this is—” Crown Prince Jia’s face was filled with confusion, even noting that Xuan Jian’s entire family was aboard the carriage.
“Could it be that Master Lin is leaving Daliang? This is bad!”
“Prepare the carriage and follow!” Wei Jia urgently commanded. Even if an alliance was impossible, offending the Northern Alliance was out of the question.
The prince’s palace was close to King Wei’s palace; within minutes, the carriage arrived at the palace gates.
“Stop! Halt immediately!”
At a hundred meters away, a hundred cavalrymen and ten war chariots charged forward.
“Damn it! Who are these people?” The palace commander was furious.
The carriage did not stop but slowed considerably.
Jing Ke immediately shouted, “Lin Shu of the Yanhuang Empire, here to see King Wei. Bystanders, stand aside!”
“Bystanders?!” Commander Tian roared in anger. But upon seeing the small banner on the carriage, he hesitated.
The local captain at the gates did not care which country they hailed from; no one was allowed to storm the palace uninvited.
“Stop immediately, or prepare the chariots for collision.”
The captain dared only to ram, for he would not order the killing of an envoy from the Northern Kingdom.
The air trembled. Jing Ke shook his head wryly.
The king had made his move.
Boom! Boom! The still air crashed like waves. Not only horses but war chariots were tossed into the air.
“What is he trying to do? Damn it, damn it!” Seeing the carriage break through, Crown Prince Jia began to understand.
Over a hundred armored soldiers did not bleed, yet each was paralyzed, their mouths emitting wisps of smoke as if seared by lightning.
“This power… it’s even stronger!” Xuan Jian witnessed this new effect for the first time.
In the blink of an eye, the cavalry and chariots tumbled wildly. Had the soldiers not twitched, the palace guards might have assumed them dead.
“Damn it! Stop them!”
“Intercept them quickly!”
It was a powerful and mysterious technique. Commander Tian immediately understood.
Seeing the palace guards writhing on the ground, Crown Prince Jia was enraged.
“You bastards! You really take Wei for barbarians!”
“Let them live—no heavy injuries!”
The crown prince ordered the knights beside the carriage. Thousands of palace guards could not be slaughtered indiscriminately. They could be captured and disciplined but not killed. Wei was weak.
“Kill!”
“Stop them!”
Hundreds of heavily armored soldiers, brandishing four-meter-long halberds, roared as they charged.
“Hmph! This is suicide!” Commander Tian glared furiously.
Jing Ke sighed and returned to his carriage seat. What followed was beyond his control.
Kill! Kill!
The armored soldiers were furious a mere two carriages dared stir trouble.
Boom! The invisible air surged again, dense electric currents shooting from the carriage periphery.
Clang! Crack! The sound of armor struck as the strong warriors twitched uncontrollably.
“Ah! No!” the small captain roared, panting with his tongue out, saliva dripping.
Even the small captain could not withstand the high-voltage current. Soldiers within a hundred meters flew about as if afflicted with leprosy.
“This… how is this possible?”
“How could this be?”
After one round, hundreds of armored soldiers were defeated.
The palace guards atop the walls were stunned; Crown Prince Jia was dumbfounded.
“No! Damn it! Beat the drums and rally!”
Seeing the carriage enter the palace gates, Commander Tian regained his senses.
It was over. He knew his career was doomed. If the king was startled, his life would be forfeit.
The palace housed tens of thousands of troops, with three thousand guards nearby, but facing the howling carriages, the guards could only desperately pursue from behind.
Clang! Clang!
“Quick! Chase them!”
Once a thousand iron cavalry assembled, Commander Tian drew his sword and led the charge.
Thump, thump, thump—the drumbeats, pounding footsteps, and battle cries filled the air.
“What is going on?” King Wei leapt up, spilling his wine.
None of his personal guards knew either.
“Could Crown Prince Jia be rebelling?”
“Damn it! I want to see for myself who dares!”
Thinking of Crown Prince Jia, King Wei wished he could charge out personally.
At the main hall’s entrance, King Wei and a thousand Wei soldiers saw the charging carriages, with thousands more soldiers pursuing in the distance.
“Bastards! A bunch of useless fools! They can’t even stop two carriages!” King Wei cursed. It seemed palace guards would need to be reselected.
By now, Lin Shu’s carriage had drawn ahead of Jing Ke’s.
“That’s him! It’s him!” Seeing the two powerful steeds, Wei Yong seemed to understand.
“This is bad! Your Majesty! This is Lin Shu of the Northern Kingdom! Could it be an assassination attempt?”
Now it made sense. Upon Wei Yong’s explanation, King Wei understood.
“Hmph! These northern barbarians dare to covet my Wei Kingdom!”
“Wu Guards! Seize them at once!”
Very well.
Three hundred elite Wu Guards, each wielding a heavy shield and thick sword, were dispatched.
Three hundred elite guards were worth three thousand soldiers; King Wei was confident in their ability.
“Heh! Here we go again!” Xuan Jian chuckled silently.
[Commander, King Wei is just ahead.]
Xiao Ying also locked onto King Wei.
“Perfect timing,” Lin Shu smiled and appeared atop the carriage.
Seeing her husband vanish from view, the Moon Goddess quickly called out, “Activate the Mind Shadow hologram!”
[Arranging immediately.] The Mind Shadow’s demeanor was casual even to others.
When the projection illuminated, Wei Qianqian was startled.
“The King is actually on the carriage roof?”
In this era of spiritual electronics, the carriage’s force field extended two hundred meters, while the high-voltage current transmitted without loss within one hundred meters.
This batch of Wei’s elite guards were the purest Wu soldiers; their fathers and grandfathers were all veterans. These thousand guards formed Wei’s strongest force.
Each guard was a third-tier expert, squad leaders second-tier, ten captains first-tier masters, and two personal generals were rare prodigies.
Wei did have grandmaster experts, but each was a monumental figure, founder of sects—never would they serve as bodyguards for the king.
Moreover, most of Wei’s top fighters had perished in wars against Qin.
Thousands of troops clashed in brutal combat; even grandmasters suffered attrition.
