Chapter Ninety-Five: The Monster Night Is Defeated
Seeing Liu Xin weeping like a rain-soaked pear blossom, Yao Ye longed to kiss his beloved one last time.
“Well? Do you think you can still save Yao Ye? Just listen to me, and I’ll rescue you both!”
Hearing Xuan Tiangang’s voice transmitted secretly, Liu Xin hesitated. She knew that whatever Xuan Tiangang was planning, it must be a scheme.
Yao Ye noticed Liu Xin’s dazed expression and thought she had been harmed. Just then, someone in the distance launched an attack towards Liu Xin.
Yao Ye once more raised his great sword, pouring every ounce of strength into a strike toward Liu Xin’s direction. The distance of dozens of meters felt as vast as the ends of the earth to him.
Finally, when he managed to get within seven or eight meters, Yao Ye sheathed his sword and lunged fiercely at Liu Xin, holding her as they tumbled two or three meters away. At that moment, a blade crashed down hard onto Yao Ye’s back. Blood sprayed from his mouth onto Liu Xin’s face.
Liu Xin sobbed uncontrollably, cradling Yao Ye’s face in her hands. Yao Ye spat blood, yet smiled, gently caressing Liu Xin’s cheek and resting his head softly on her shoulder.
“Sister, to die in your arms is a blessing across three lifetimes. Sister, would you grant me one last wish? Kiss me, just once, before the end.”
“Yao Ye! Don’t say such things! You’ll be fine! I won’t let you die, I won’t, I won’t!”
Desperately, Liu Xin tried to heal Yao Ye’s shattered body, and he began to show signs of improvement. But the enemies would not give them time.
Weapons were raised again, slashing down toward the two. Liu Xin, holding Yao Ye, looked up and shouted with all her might:
“I am willing! As long as you save Yao Ye! Even if it means my death, I am willing!”
“Hahaha! Good!”
Xuan Tiangang, seeing his plan coming to fruition, used his aura to force everyone back, though he did not show himself.
The crowd staggered, some collapsing to the ground, and warily glanced around.
“Liu Xin, now destroy Yao Ye’s demon core for me! Sever his foundation! And do not let him know about this, or he will die. But rest assured, I will not kill him.”
Liu Xin, hearing Xuan Tiangang’s secret message, cried and shook her head, gazing at Yao Ye lying in her arms, her eyes growing hazy.
Xuan Tiangang pressed on, “It’s alright! Take your time to decide. Before you make your choice, I won’t let anyone harm you two. But whether Yao Ye can hold on… that’s another matter! Hahaha!”
Liu Xin looked at Yao Ye, trembling involuntarily, memories flooding back: the two of them walking together under the setting sun, hand in hand on the streets; just moments ago, Yao Ye had risked everything to shield her from an attack.
She smiled softly, and at that moment, a surge of energy entered Yao Ye’s body. Neither of them noticed, but Yao Ye’s dazed eyes regained their brightness.
“Liu Xin! There is one additional condition: you must break Yao Ye’s spirit. If you fail, I will end his life at any moment.”
Yao Ye looked at Liu Xin’s face and smiled. “Sister, you are so beautiful.”
Hearing his words, Liu Xin smiled joyfully, then suddenly pressed her lips to Yao Ye’s, quietly drawing a dagger in her hand and stabbing it toward his demon core.
“Forgive me, Yao Ye! I owe you far, far too much. If there were even the slightest chance, I wouldn’t let you fall like this. Whether you blame or hate me, even if it costs me my life, I must save you! I know, perhaps from now on you will see me as a stranger—I'm sorry! I have no other choice!”
Thinking these thoughts, Liu Xin’s tears fell again. Without hesitation, she plunged the dagger deep into Yao Ye’s demon core.
Yao Ye’s eyes widened in disbelief, staring at Liu Xin. She forced back her tears and abruptly pushed him away, rising to her feet and laughing wildly.
“Yao Ye, oh Yao Ye! Did you really think I would love you? Hahaha! It was all an act! I am of the demon clan—how could I ever fall for you? I didn’t kill you before because you were still useful. But now…”
Yao Ye yanked the dagger out and threw it to the ground, then dropped to one knee, gripping the earth with one hand and pointing at Liu Xin with the other. Blood poured from his mouth, followed by a collapse.
His face turned ghostly pale. Liu Xin looked up and screamed.
“Ah!”
Her tears flowed uncontrollably. Crying, she crouched on the ground, her voice growing hoarse until there was no sound left.
Yao Ye lay on the ground, losing consciousness. In his final moment of awareness, he fixed his gaze on Liu Xin’s departing figure. A single crystal teardrop of blood fell to the earth.
