Chapter Seventy-Four: The Enchanted Maple
As time passed, Demon Night gradually regained his human form. The dormant demon core within him seemed to come alive, vibrating and spinning ever faster. Suddenly, the core stopped its rotation, and the surrounding spiritual energy of heaven and earth surged toward Demon Night's core like a whirlpool, madly rushing in!
Outside, the two warring factions stared, dumbfounded, at the storm-like surge of energy, halting their attacks as their gazes fixed upon the portal at the heart of the tempest.
"Hahaha! It seems you no longer have any chance to stop this!" Old Fushi laughed heartily, while Crimson Chain's face turned ashen. Bear Overlord stepped forward, his wolf-toothed club angrily pointed at Old Fushi and his companions.
"Even if you succeed today, so what! Let’s see if you can escape unscathed!"
Old Fushi frowned, lowering his head in thought. "This is nerve-wracking! I have no idea how Demon Night is doing, or if he has completed his awakening. Alas!"
The enemy, as if driven mad, launched a reckless assault on the group, increasing their pressure exponentially. Forced to protect the portal, Old Fushi and his allies found their movements severely restricted.
As the spiritual energy poured into him, Demon Night’s demon core radiated a primordial power. He opened his eyes, glowing red, utterly devoid of emotion as he gazed coldly ahead.
Beside him, the shadowy figure could not help but prostrate itself. The energy it had been emanating vanished like a receding tide, leaving no trace—only the wings on its back gently fluttered, proof that all this had truly happened.
The dry, wrinkled skin on Demon Night’s face returned to its former smoothness, his hair grew lustrous once more. Without wind, his body brimmed with a strange, otherworldly aura.
The red glow in his eyes gradually faded, replaced by a pair of bright, spirited eyes that surveyed his surroundings with keen intelligence.
"Phew! It's finally over!"
Demon Night examined his body, especially the changes in his demon core. There was a new, indescribable presence—an energy guided by his spiritual force, wild and untamed, that shot from his fingertips like a runaway stallion. With a thunderous crash, a deep pit several yards wide appeared on the ground.
"Did I do this?" Demon Night stared at his hands in disbelief. "Hahaha! Wonderful!"
He then turned his attention to the wings on his back. "Alright! Let me see what marvels these wings hold!"
"You mustn’t do that!" the shadowy figure hastily warned.
Just as Demon Night was about to try out his wings, the voice interrupted him, and he turned around, somewhat annoyed.
"Who are you? Why are you in the Tomb of the Sky Demon Wolf? I don’t recall ever seeing you!"
"Young master, please retract your wings. Their pressure is overwhelming for me," the shadowy figure forced out the words through clenched teeth, sweat pouring down its face.
Demon Night glanced at the figure and withdrew his wings. "Can you tell me now?"
"Be patient, young master! Hahaha! This is wonderful!" The shadowy figure kept sizing up Demon Night, bursting into laughter from time to time.
Demon Night frowned. "Who are you really? Why do you address me in three different ways? If you don’t speak, don’t blame me for being harsh!"
Seeing Demon Night’s impatience, the shadowy figure quickly stood still, waving its hands in panic and excitement. "Don’t be angry, young master. Let me explain!"
Recalling his past deeds, the shadowy figure’s face showed pride and the aura of a true strongman. "I am the third patriarch of the Sky Demon Wolf Clan, Demon Maple. As for—"
Demon Night interrupted in astonishment. "Are you truly Ancestor Demon Maple? Impossible! You’re lying! Ancestor Demon Maple has long since perished!"
Seeing Demon Night ready to attack, the shadowy figure hurriedly pleaded, "Young master, I have no reason to deceive you. Haven’t you noticed I am merely a spiritual entity?"
Demon Night scrutinized him carefully. "Indeed, a spiritual entity," he murmured, then pressed him again. "You say you are Demon Maple of the Demon Clan—do you have proof?"
Seeing Demon Night was convinced for now, Demon Maple wiped his sweatless brow in relief. "This space is proof!" He formed a seal with his hands, and the space trembled in response.
Witnessing this, Demon Night was finally convinced that the person before him was indeed Ancestor Demon Maple. He rushed forward and knelt on one knee.
"Unworthy descendant, Demon Night, greets the Ancestor!"
Demon Maple laughed heartily. "Hahaha! Good, good, good! Rise, young master!"
With Demon Maple’s assistance, Demon Night stood, gazing joyfully at the man before him. "Wonderful! I never imagined you would still be alive, Ancestor!"
"Young master, now is not the time for such talk. You have awakened the ancestral bloodline. Let me tell you everything. This is why I have lingered here all this time."
