Chapter 87: The Final Boss (Part Three)
The Berserk Demon, though collapsed on the ground, had not perished or vanished. The black flames that shrouded its body gradually dispersed, then astonishingly transformed into a humanoid figure bearing a single horn. Standing up once more, it gazed at Ye Yu and his companions, its eyes clear and luminous, filled with a gentle warmth that radiated from its now tranquil expression.
Even within the world of "Divine Remnants," this horned humanoid exuded an intense sense of sanctity, a testament to the painstaking effort poured into the game's design. Without uttering a word to Ye Yu's group, it turned toward the path ahead. Extending its arms, a milky-white light gleamed, and the thicket before them—once tangled like brambles—shifted aside, revealing a broad road. The creature then glanced back at Ye Yu and his companions, a gentle smile gracing its face, before it darted forward and vanished without a trace.
"I believe this is the path that leads us straight to the final boss. Let's go," Ye Yu said in a low voice, his eyes fixed on the newly opened trail. Old Hu, beside him, furrowed his brow in hesitation. "I think it might be wiser to find another route. My intuition tells me this seemingly simple path may be hiding an ambush."
Ye Yu shook his head, convinced otherwise. "No, I think this is a safe shortcut. Notice that the experience from this boss is less than what you got from the Fallen Heart of the Ancient Forest, and its location allows us to pass by using side paths without triggering it. So, my guess is that defeating the Berserk Demon isn’t mandatory."
"So, you mean defeating the Berserk Demon turns this shortcut into a reward?" Old Hu asked. Ye Yu nodded. "Yes, it’s a bonus—a part of the reward system, helping us reach the final boss faster."
"Since you say so, I suppose there’s no problem," Old Hu shrugged, accepting Ye Yu's reasoning. After all, Ye Yu's judgments had proven accurate time and again.
With that, Ye Yu and his companions proceeded down the narrow path. Now, their next challenge would be the ultimate boss. If they cleared this instance, they would likely reach level 40—the server's limit for these three days.
Of course, experience points could still accumulate, which was a testament to the game's fairness.
"Say, Boss, what do you think is the best way for someone with your class specialization to solo a boss?"
Ye Yu pondered Old Hu's question. "My class is somewhat akin to a mage—without the advantages that make soloing easier for other classes. It’s all about slow attrition, really. But, in terms of skill damage, I have a higher formula than your soloing techniques, so my damage output is better. The real challenge is dodging attacks."
"True. Your class leans toward the mage archetype, so your defenses are quite low. If you solo, a few heavy hits from the boss could leave you badly wounded or near death," Old Hu said, then relaxed his brow and looked at Ye Yu with interest. "Why not try soloing the boss?"
The others wore amused expressions. Ye Yu could only smile wryly, feeling somewhat at a loss. "Me? I think I'll pass. Our group synergy is much stronger. Soloing makes it hard to sustain consistent output while dodging attacks. Instant-cast skills exist, but their damage isn’t significant, and they waste a lot of time. You guys are different from me!"
"I’d really like to see it," Luo Feng chimed in, his eyes brimming with curiosity.
Qu Zheng, too, looked at Ye Yu with anticipation. "I want to see how you solo a dungeon, Old Three."
Ye Yu smiled bitterly, thinking he was neither a veteran player nor did he have Huang Hong’s class advantage, yet they were shoving him forward. Wasn’t this just bullying?
"Alright, fine. I’ll give it a try—but don’t laugh if I fail, okay?" He put on a mock-crying face and sighed, resigned to the group's demands.
"The final boss is nothing like the ones before. If you can't beat it, just say so—I'll jump in and help," Old Hu’s mischievous grin sent a chill down Ye Yu’s spine. Clearly, Old Hu was eager to take revenge. The others’ expressions were equally strange, their crooked smiles unnerving.
Ye Yu knew well that the final boss’s AI and attributes would be the most formidable in the entire instance. His class simply didn’t have the solo advantages of others—it was made for teamwork, where its power truly shone.
"Alright, alright," Ye Yu said, coming to a halt with the others. Before them, an enormous green heart floated in midair, thumping loudly—so vivid that the scene felt real, not virtual.
The heart gleamed a pale green, speckled with crystalline lights, dazzling to behold. Countless pale green vines stretched up from the ground, wrapping around the massive heart like veins, pulsating in time with its beat. The vines writhed ceaselessly, marking this as the final boss that awaited them in the dungeon.
Seeing this, the group’s expressions grew grave. Old Hu, unfamiliar with this instance from the old server, was surprised by the turn of events. He wanted to suggest they face it together, but when he looked at Ye Yu’s calm demeanor, he found himself unable to speak.
Especially since Ye Yu’s eyes, at that moment, appeared particularly striking—a deep, icy chill radiating from their depths.
