Chapter 75: Me, the Chief of Security
“What do you mean by that…” Ye Fei was momentarily stunned, but a realization began to dawn on him.
“In this world, no great and powerful family ever appears out of thin air. For three generations, the Sitong family were nothing but humble farmers—doesn’t it make you curious how, in his generation, Sitong Feng suddenly became so wealthy?” Old Chen let out a cold chuckle, deliberately keeping him in suspense. “It’s just that my connections within the Chen family have dwindled considerably. To dig up anything deeper will require more time.”
“I see…” Ye Fei narrowed his eyes, replying, “I’ll keep an eye on it.”
“Rest assured, Mr. Ye. Now that Sitong Feng knows about our connection, and especially after you shielded Yu’er from harm today, he won’t dare to attack you openly,” Old Chen said slowly. “However, you’ll have to deal with his underhanded tricks yourself.”
“That’s nothing.” Ye Fei smiled faintly, unconcerned by Old Chen’s warning. “Let the soldiers come when the enemy attacks, let the earth block the water when the flood arrives.”
“Then I must ask you to be vigilant, Mr. Ye.”
Without lingering, Old Chen exchanged a few words and left in anger.
Though this formidable figure had already been expelled from his family, it didn’t mean he was without means of retaliation.
As for what he might do, that was left to the shadows.
“…Thank you, Ye Fei.” Chen Yu twisted her fragrant shoulders. Remembering the recent events, her gaze towards Ye Fei grew noticeably softer.
“There’s really no need to thank me,” Ye Fei grinned. “Now that this is over, what you need to worry about is what to do with Spring and Autumn Pharmaceuticals next. Dealing with those three won’t solve all your problems.”
“I have an idea—would you like to hear it?”
“Oh? Tell me, what do you have in mind?” Chen Yu’s beautiful eyes glimmered with anticipation as she looked at Ye Fei.
Ye Fei smiled. “They look down on us because Spring and Autumn Pharmaceuticals doesn't have its own patents. So why don’t we create one ourselves and seize a share of the market in one fell swoop?”
“You mean… developing a new drug?” Chen Yu paused, a hint of doubt in her voice. “Actually, a year ago, I invested over ten million in hiring renowned domestic experts to set up a new research center. But the market is already close to saturation. Breaking in through innovation is too difficult.”
“Unless our team can extract something as groundbreaking as artemisinin, or develop a drug with efficacy far surpassing anything available, everything else is just empty talk.”
“If I could produce something like that, what would you do next?” Ye Fei stroked his chin, recalling an incident from the past.
During his training in the remote mountains, his master, to stabilize his injuries and strengthen his spirit, personally concocted a pill in front of him using ancient Chinese medicine techniques and a bronze cauldron. It was called the ‘Refreshment Pill’. After taking it, one could clear the mind, suppress desire, stabilize the spirit, dispel fatigue, and even recover gradually from organ failure induced by sleepless nights!
For ordinary people, such a pill would be nothing short of miraculous, but for someone like Ye Fei, it was barely a supplement, far less valuable than spiritual energy itself, which could surpass any medicinal aid.
“Don’t joke around. You’re not an expert in this field…” Chen Yu rolled her eyes, thinking he was teasing her, but then she caught the seriousness in his gaze. “You… you’re serious?”
Ye Fei nodded slightly.
Chen Yu took a deep breath. “If you could truly come up with something like that, first, I’d hold a press conference to announce the new self-developed drug under the banner of Spring and Autumn Pharmaceuticals. Then, I’d invite experts to help secure the patent, apply for regulatory approval and certification, and only then release the product to the market.”
“How much market share could we capture?” Ye Fei asked suddenly.
“How much?” Chen Yu’s eyes sparkled as she raised a slender finger. “All of it!”
“All of it?” Ye Fei raised an eyebrow.
“As long as Spring and Autumn Pharmaceuticals can launch a patent that stirs the entire medical industry, I can guarantee, under my management, we’ll seize the entire market share in Jiangnan Province!” Chen Yu’s face brimmed with confidence.
“I’ll visit Spring and Autumn Pharmaceuticals tomorrow,” Ye Fei said, getting up and heading toward his room. “Get some rest. Goodnight.”
Chen Yu watched his retreating figure, biting her lower lip, lost in thought.
…
The next day, at Spring and Autumn Pharmaceuticals.
Chen Yu herself drove a Maserati, bringing Ye Fei and A’Gui to the renowned ‘Spring and Autumn Tower’.
To prevent any uncontrollable incidents within the company, Chen Yu, through sheer force of will, now held nearly 58% of the board’s shares, making her the largest shareholder and founder.
As for the remaining shareholders, most were originally Old Chen’s trusted followers who, after he covertly left the family, struck out on their own. Not only did they refrain from meddling in the company’s development, but they also provided Chen Yu with strategic support when needed. This was one of the main reasons she had managed to grow a small pharmacy into a major enterprise in just a few years.
Throughout history, whether it be a nation or a family, unity leads to prosperity—an eternal truth.
“Sister Yu, what brings you here for an inspection today?”
As soon as they entered the office, a tall, handsome man in a suit appeared before Ye Fei.
“Oh, let me introduce you—this is our Director of Operations, Wan Jun,” Chen Yu turned to Ye Fei. “If it weren’t for him, we wouldn’t have secured nearly 60% of the pharmacies in Jiangcheng.”
“It’s nothing compared to your achievements, Sister Yu.” Wan Jun smiled politely, squinting at Ye Fei. “And this is…?”
“He…” For a moment, Chen Yu didn’t know how to explain Ye Fei’s identity.
“I’m Sister Yu’s newly hired head of security,” Ye Fei said with a simple, honest smile. “Came to take a look at the company with her.”
“Head of security?” Wan Jun withdrew the hand he was about to extend and turned to Chen Yu. “Sister Yu, you should let me handle things like this. Old Zhang from security is still strong and healthy.”
Chen Yu was about to explain when she suddenly felt a tingling at her waist. Catching Ye Fei’s discreet glance, she sighed and played along, “He’s my distant cousin from the countryside. Didn’t get much schooling, but he’s strong from all the farm work, so…”
“Sister Yu, our company’s policies are very clear on personnel transfers…” Wan Jun glanced at Ye Fei with a touch of disdain and said awkwardly, “When the security department was founded, you personally set the minimum education requirement as junior college or above. But he hasn’t even been to school and…”
