Chapter 74: Who Told You to Stand in the Way?
Full Moon Hotel, lobby.
Nearly twenty burly security guards, along with a few waiters who looked as if they couldn’t even truss a chicken, had gathered together. Some brandished kitchen knives, others clutched stools—all of them forming a tight circle around the young man whose body was stained with blood.
Yet, not one of them dared to step forward.
“You. Come here.”
Ye Fei, calm and unhurried, pointed at the lobby manager who had earlier led him and Chen Yu to their room, gesturing with a slight curl of his finger.
The manager hesitated for a few seconds, straightened his suit and tie, and tried to compose himself before walking toward Ye Fei, maintaining a gentlemanly bow. “Sir, how may I assist you?”
Slap!
A crisp sound rang out.
Blood trickled from the corner of the manager’s mouth. Clutching his face, he stared at Ye Fei in terror.
“This slap is for disciplining you on behalf of Situ Feng. You don’t know the rules—that deserves punishment.” Ye Fei sneered, raising his hand again.
Slap!
“This one is because you’re not worthy of that suit.”
Slap!
“This one is because you lack honesty, have no integrity, and act with the cunning of a petty man. You deserve it!”
Slap!
“And this one…”
…
After ten slaps in total, the lobby manager, his face swollen and bloodied to the point of resembling a pig’s head, collapsed to the floor and burst into tears.
A man of considerable stature, reduced to sobbing by Ye Fei’s hand.
The crucial point was that he didn’t even dare fight back.
Why? Because he had witnessed everything that happened earlier in that room via the security cameras—he’d nearly wet himself in fear.
Otherwise, why would he have summoned so many people to block the door? It was all out of fear that Ye Fei would come for him.
Yet, at this moment, he realized that any confidence he’d had when facing Ye Fei was utterly crushed by the invisible aura of killing intent that radiated from him.
The security guards and waiters stood trembling, faces full of disbelief.
For they could see clearly: Ye Fei’s eyes were bloodshot, his entire being exuding an indescribable chill.
It was a mysterious feeling—like encountering a tiger in the wild. When the beast looks at you, licks its teeth, and its gaze flashes with deadly intent, you feel a primal terror, as if you’re about to become its prey.
You glance around, surrounded by countless makeshift weapons supplied by nature, but you know you’re doomed.
Everyone in the lobby felt this way.
This was the first time since returning to his homeland that Ye Fei had truly lost his temper—completely lost it.
He could hardly imagine: had he not shielded Chen Yu from that knife, with her ordinary human body, she would have been cleaved in two by now.
It was no exaggeration. With the force Scarface’s brother had wielded, he could have killed a wild boar with a single blow—let alone a fragile human being.
Moreover, Ye Fei knew full well: if Chen Yu had died, Situ Feng could have easily pinned the blame on him. The Chen family would be thrown into turmoil, and even Chen Bozhong might not spare him.
Such insidious schemes were what Ye Fei, shaped by past experiences, despised most.
“This time, I’ll let you go.”
Ye Fei rubbed his palm, his tone icy. “In a moment, take those two half-dead bodies and toss them in front of Situ Feng’s villa. Tell him this from me: ‘Don’t be in such a hurry to die. Understand?’”
“I understand… I understand!” The manager nodded frantically, words barely coherent, as if granted a reprieve from execution.
“If I find out you didn’t do as told, I promise I’ll shatter every bone in your body—one by one,” Ye Fei said, hands in his pockets, turning away coldly. “And then, I’ll feed you to the dogs.”
The manager shuddered, his eyes filling with terror.
The security guards hurriedly parted to clear a path. No one dared to stop him.
Only after Ye Fei had walked out of the hotel did everyone finally breathe a collective sigh of relief.
The scene defied all reason.
…
Hospital.
Ye Fei, Chen Bozhong, and Chen Yu gathered in a single room.
“I’ve heard everything. For now, please wake Yu’er, Mr. Ye.”
Chen Bozhong’s complexion was poor, but his voice still resonated with authority as he addressed Ye Fei.
Ye Fei nodded slightly, then placed his hand on Chen Yu’s neck. A thread of spiritual energy flowed into her nerves, rousing her from unconsciousness.
“Situ Feng is bold indeed—not only did he try to kill two birds with one stone, but he also took me, Chen Bozhong, for a fool.” Chen Bozhong sneered, his fingers tapping rhythmically on the table, an air of dominance emanating from him. “This grudge, I will remember—and repay a hundredfold!”
“Uncle…” Chen Yu suddenly woke with a start, tears streaming down her face as she sobbed, her voice hoarse, “Ye Fei took the knife for me!”
She hadn’t seen Ye Fei standing behind A’Gui, and her emotions spilled forth naturally.
“Yu’er, Mr. Ye is all right,” Chen Bozhong said gently, a trace of shock flickering in his eyes as he offered comfort.
Chen Yu’s grief-stricken expression froze. She sat up, looked around, and finally fixed her gaze on Ye Fei.
Then, she did something no one expected.
Slap!
Ye Fei held his left cheek, looking resigned.
“Are you trying to get yourself killed!?” Chen Yu cried, pounding on him as tears fell like rain, her frail beauty stirring everyone’s compassion. “Who told you to block it? Who told you to block it?”
“All right.” Ye Fei took a deep breath, wrapped his arms around her shoulders, and spoke softly. “It’s over now.”
Only after several minutes did Chen Yu gradually calm down.
She was no stranger to such dangers. If she hadn’t glimpsed, in that brief moment before fainting, the bloody wound on Ye Fei’s back, she wouldn’t have been so terrified.
“Ahem, Yu’er, Mr. Ye has his own ways of protecting himself. You need not worry so much,” Chen Bozhong said, narrowing his eyes as he recalled the scene.
“Uncle, have you found out who was behind this?” Chen Yu bit her lip, a rare trace of coldness appearing on her delicate face.
Chen Bozhong’s gaze shifted to Ye Fei.
Ye Fei nodded slightly and recounted what had transpired at the Full Moon Hotel.
When she heard that the two assassins had been dealt with, Chen Yu finally breathed a sigh of relief.
“Master Chen, I still hope you won’t involve yourself in the feud between Situ Feng and me for now,” Ye Fei said, changing the subject. “I know you’re heading back to the Chen family once you’ve recovered. If you’re distracted now, you’ll only be falling into their trap.”
“Mr. Ye, I am well aware of the risks,” Chen Bozhong replied, his eyes flashing. “Situ Feng has some cunning and means, but what truly interests me is the figure manipulating things from the shadows.”
