Against a few street thugs like these, Ye Fei did not even need to use his spiritual energy. He could handle them bare-handed. After loosening his muscles and joints, he beckoned them over.

“Come on, get started. I’m waiting to go back.”

One of the men, his arm covered in an elaborate tattoo, seized a club and summoned all his strength. He was preparing to leap forward and bring it down on Ye Fei’s head with a devastating blow.

Ye Fei smiled faintly, watching his every movement with perfect composure.

What the hell? Why isn’t he dodging?

Everyone around them stopped what they were doing and stared blankly at the two men.

Then Ye Fei gently tilted his head to one side.

Before the tattooed man could react, his body dropped straight downward.

He fell past Ye Fei’s left side and slammed directly into the ground.

Watching as though it were a show, Ye Fei said, “Ouch. That looked like it hurt.”

The tattooed man lay facedown, covering his face with both hands and refusing to move.

So the kid still cared about his dignity! Ye Fei chuckled, then planted one foot on the man’s backside and rocked it from side to side.

“Damn, you’ve got a pretty good figure. Your butt is even perkier than a woman’s.”

The man suddenly sprang to his feet. He had never imagined that both his body and his spirit could suffer a double assault.

“You... Even if I lost, you didn’t have to humiliate me like that!”

He struggled for a long while, yet could not think of what to call Ye Fei. Beside him, the boss stood with his mouth hanging open. He had truly been frightened by Ye Fei.

Among the thugs behind them was a hot-blooded young man. With a cold laugh, he swung his club viciously at Ye Fei from behind.

Ye Fei did not dodge. Everyone waited for him to collapse.

After all, an injury of that force would leave anyone badly hurt, if not dead.

After waiting for half a minute, Ye Fei looked at their expectant faces and could not help laughing.

“Hahaha! Don’t tell me you’re waiting for me to fall? What’s wrong with you people? I’m Ye Fei—the first and last of my kind. You’re dreaming.”

This fellow truly was no ordinary man. The general manager behind the boss leaned over and whispered, “Why don’t we forget it? If this continues, he’ll cripple every one of us. You’ll get dragged into it too, Boss. Is it really worth it?”

The boss thought of his son still lying in the hospital, and his anger flared again.

“No! Even if it costs every one of your lives, I’ll avenge my son! All of you, get him! Take him down!”

...

“Boss Wang, that isn’t right. We call you Boss out of respect for the years we spent struggling alongside you. But what do you mean by saying you’ll avenge your son even if it costs us our lives? Your son only broke an arm. What, are we all supposed to die with him?”

The speaker was a yellow-haired man with a sturdy build and a distinctly chivalrous air. Despite his rough appearance, he wore a string of Buddhist prayer beads with surprising refinement.

His words made Ye Fei’s eyes light up. This fellow was something else—a decent man, at least. He had a mind of his own and was not the sort to simply follow the crowd.

“You bastards have spent the past few years eating my food and drinking my liquor, and now you’ve learned to distinguish between yours and mine? I must have been blind to think a bunch of ingrates like you had any conscience! You’re all a pack of thankless wolves!”

Boss Wang’s face turned dark red with rage, and the veins in his neck bulged.

The refined-looking man gave a cold snort and stared seriously at him.

“Brother, I’m calling you that now because I’m giving you face! Putting aside whether your son was right or wrong, whenever your family ran into trouble, weren’t we always there? Which time did we brothers not return covered in wounds? Aren’t you going too far?”

Ye Fei applauded and gave the man a thumbs-up.

“Brother, you’ve got quite a way with words. Why not come work for me? I guarantee you’ll only have to handle security. No one will get hurt. Besides, anyone can see this man doesn’t trust you, yet you’re still bending over backward for him. Why bother?”

The refined-looking man pulled out a small knife and made a cut across his own arm.

“From now on, you walk your road and I’ll walk mine. We owe each other nothing!”

Ye Fei was startled by the dramatic declaration. The man might not have been well educated, but his intentions were admirable. He would be worth hiring as a security guard at Huijing.

Huijing had recently increased its investigative efforts considerably. Gu Yanzhen had also begun taking on assignments involving the pursuit of unfaithful spouses. The company’s most urgent need was a large number of bodyguards—preferably intimidating men who could exert pressure simply by showing up.

These thugs fit the bill perfectly. They looked fierce, and their words were sharp. If they were sent to follow cheating spouses, the job would be effortless.

“Big brother, from now on, we’re with you. Whatever you ask, we’ll take care of it. Just tell us what you need.”

Ye Fei put an arm around his shoulder.

“Come work for my company. I’ll give you the highest monthly salary in the business. How does that sound?”

The refined-looking man gave an embarrassed smile and pushed Ye Fei’s arm away.

“It’s not that I don’t want to go, Big Brother. Think about it. Office workers with regular nine-to-five jobs are different from us. Not one of us can read or write properly. How could we possibly contribute in the workplace?”

Hearing this, Ye Fei understood their predicament. He said softly, “You don’t need to. It’s my company. All you have to do is continue doing what you’re good at.”

...

Where in the world was there a career for street thugs? Though he remained half skeptical, the refined-looking man still gathered his followers and went straight to Huijing Company.

On their first day there, they were more than a little ill at ease. As he gazed at the brightly lit skyscraper and the spotless desks and chairs everywhere, the refined-looking man felt as though he had been reborn into an entirely different life.

“Big Brother, are we really supposed to work here? Won’t they look down on us? Is Brother Ye Fei really trustworthy?”

The refined-looking man swallowed hard. He had no idea how to answer his subordinate’s question. Just as he was about to take everyone to find Human Resources, Gu Yanzhen approached and called out to him.

“You’re Lin Huzi, right? Ye Fei sent you here? Then come with me.”

Lin Huzi nodded repeatedly, and most of his nervousness vanished. His respect for Ye Fei grew considerably.

Meanwhile, in South China Province, Ye Fei and Chen Yu looked at each other and burst out laughing.

“Not bad,” Chen Yu praised him. “So preaching is fashionable now? I thought you only knew how to punch and kick.”

Ye Fei smiled. He knew far more than how to punch and kick. Negotiation was one of his strengths as well.

Chen Yu draped an arm over his shoulder and said smugly, “I actually warned them long ago not to provoke my little brother. They refused to listen. What could I do?”

This older sister certainly had a talent for taking credit after the fact. Ye Fei secretly chuckled, then turned and pulled Chen Yu toward the hotel.

“Come on, Sis. We still have something else to do.”

“Huh? What do we have to do?”

Chen Yu’s face flushed crimson. Ye Fei was being far too direct. Were they really about to take things all the way?

“Of course—to sleep.”
