Chapter 103: The Press Confrontation
Of course.
Ye Fei also understood that if Second Senior Sister truly did this, it was probably to avoid dragging him down.
If he were in her position, having such a handsome and charming junior brother, how could he bear to be a burden?
They had only been watching for a short while when suddenly the door to the security office was pushed open.
The visitor startled Ye Fei.
“Ninth Senior Sister?”
“What brings you here?”
Zhou Danzhuang put a finger to her lips, softly shushing Ye Fei, then crept into the office like a thief, locking the door behind her. She let out a long sigh of relief, smoothed her short skirt, and sat down on a nearby sofa.
“Ninth Senior Sister, what a rare guest. Aren’t you working today?” Ye Fei asked with a smile. “And why do you look like you’re sneaking around?”
“Don’t mention it. It’s all because of your Second Senior Sister,” Zhou Danzhuang said, patting her chest, still shaken. “You heard about what happened yesterday, right? The boss gave me a few days off to rest. When I walked into her office, she was throwing a fit. I was scared out of my wits.”
“Is it about the missing money?” Ye Fei asked.
“Yes! Five hundred million!” Zhou Danzhuang clicked her tongue. “Your Second Senior Sister has ordered everyone to keep quiet about this. No one is allowed to speak to outsiders. I suggested calling the police, but she refused. She wants to investigate it herself.”
“Investigate it herself?”
Ye Fei narrowed his eyes. The five hundred million was indeed money he had given Second Senior Sister, but the timing of the theft was too coincidental.
Zhou Danzhuang sighed, went to the water dispenser, poured herself a glass, and drank it all in one gulp. She licked her lips and said, “This is serious, little junior brother. You better stay out of your Second Senior Sister’s business. If you annoy her too much, she might just kick you out of the villa.”
“Oh, okay,” Ye Fei nodded. “What will happen if the five hundred million can’t be recovered?”
“I don’t know the details.”
“But I just talked with your Second Senior Sister.” Zhou Danzhuang’s expression turned grave. “Her company is already under tremendous pressure. That five hundred million was supposed to help stabilize the cash flow, but now that’s gone, it’s like walking back into a dead end.”
“It’s nearly the end of the month, and all the developers and construction companies in Jiangnan Province are waiting to be paid. Without that money, any hope of settlement is just a pipe dream.”
“Plus, your Second Senior Sister borrowed a huge amount from the bank to expand the business. She even signed some kind of wager agreement with the bank president. That money wasn’t due to be repaid yet, but once the bank found out about the crisis at Wangu Group, those bastards immediately pulled out a contract and started demanding repayment. They didn’t come early or late—just at the worst possible time. What bad luck!”
After speaking, Zhou Danzhuang gritted her teeth and stamped her foot in frustration.
---
Ye Fei nodded and asked calmly, “Who is this person who ran off with the donation money?”
“That’s Wang Xue. She was an old employee at your Second Senior Sister’s company. She joined shortly after the founding of Wangu Group and was personally trained by your Second Senior Sister as the financial director. That’s why your Second Senior Sister entrusted such an important position to her.”
“I checked through the patrol system; her background is clean with no connections. If she dared to do something like this, someone must be behind it.”
“She’s gone without a trace now. In such a vast sea of people, it’s really hard to track her down,” Zhou Danzhuang said helplessly.
“Someone behind the scenes?” Ye Fei furrowed his brows, a chill creeping through his heart. He murmured, “So, what now?”
“I don’t know either. Your Second Senior Sister insists on keeping this low-key and wants to find the person quietly.”
“If we don’t notify the patrol, it’s going to be very difficult to find her,” Zhou Danzhuang shrugged.
“The company has grown big. There are all kinds of people now. It might be an outsider colluding with an insider again.” Ye Fei yawned and said, “Ninth Senior Sister, do you want to go do something with me?”
“Do what?” Zhou Danzhuang put down her cup and asked curiously.
“Hehe.” Ye Fei gave a mysterious smile. “Guess.”
“Get lost! Stop thinking about dirty things!” Zhou Danzhuang glared at him as if recalling something and turned to leave.
Ye Fei leaned back comfortably on the sofa, but his mind was busy pondering how to help Second Senior Sister solve this mess.
Or perhaps Second Senior Sister had a way to handle it herself?
Wangu Group was already facing considerable pressure.
Now, with five hundred million stolen at such a critical moment, it was hard not to suspect that some so-called business association was scheming behind the scenes.
“I want to see what tricks you’re trying to play.”
Ye Fei sneered coldly.
---
Meanwhile,
Lin Qiqing was in an extremely foul mood.
The money being stolen was one thing; this wasn’t the first time she had encountered such a situation. She handled it methodically, and Wangu Group appeared calm on the surface.
What angered her most was Wang Xue’s betrayal.
As one of the few founding members of the company, Wang Xue had earned Lin Qiqing’s deep trust.
To exaggerate, Lin Qiqing had almost handed over half the company’s financial authority to Wang Xue.
Privately, they called each other sisters.
Now, this woman not only betrayed her but ran off with the funds at such a critical time. This was no mere sabotage—it was kicking her when she was down.
For a strong woman like Lin Qiqing, this was utterly unacceptable.
After the incident, Lin Qiqing made countless calls to Wang Xue and her friends. No one could find her; there was no news at all, as if she had vanished into thin air.
After arranging the company’s affairs, she contacted the intelligence network she had cultivated, ordering them to use whatever means necessary to find Wang Xue and recover the stolen funds.
Although she knew it was like searching for a needle in a haystack.
But one had to try.
A day passed like this.
Sitting in her office, Lin Qiqing was too tired to work overtime dealing with these troubles. She grabbed her car keys and left.
However—
As she left the company building and headed toward the parking lot, a group of reporters holding microphones suddenly appeared in front of her, surrounding her.
“Miss Lin Qiqing, I’m a reporter from Jiangnan Economic Daily. We heard that your company’s financial manager ran off with a huge sum of money. Is that true?”
“Director Lin, we’re reporters from Jiangnan Local Television. Rumor has it that the financial manager fled because of workplace psychological abuse from you, which caused her to hold a grudge and embezzle the funds. Is that true?”
