Ruan Tang looked utterly baffled. “Entertainment? Which eye of yours saw me entertaining you?” Could it be that buying a watch was some kind of mockery toward them? Ruan Tang felt deeply speechless.
The second sales clerk sneered coldly, “Dressed so cheaply, and you still have the nerve to come into a luxury store to shop? Do you even have money? This isn’t a big supermarket with discounts; we don’t give handouts to the poor!”
Ruan Tang was speechless. She couldn’t help but laugh at how condescending people were in every industry. Simply judging her purchasing power by her appearance was so shallow and foolish.
Ruan Tang sneered without holding back. Holding Huo Qingqing firmly, she asserted, “Where’s your manager? Call your manager out!”
She wasn’t someone who would be taken advantage of, not in her previous life, and certainly not in this one.
The second sales clerk snorted arrogantly. “Our manager doesn’t meet with just anyone. We’ve seen plenty like you — those who just want to cause a scene for some compensation. You think we’re fools?!”
The first sales clerk tugged at the second’s sleeve, whispering, “Stop it, she might actually be able to afford it!”
The second clerk rolled her eyes, disdain dripping from her every movement. She sneered, “If she can really afford that diamond watch, I’ll imitate a dog and bark right here!”
Hiss!
The first sales clerk was shocked, her eyes filled with a complicated expression. Was she really that harsh on herself? So certain this lady couldn’t afford the watch?
Ruan Tang smiled at the remark. She hadn’t expected the woman to be so convinced she couldn’t pay, and had already labeled her a troublemaker.
Too bad — that dog imitation was definitely going to happen.
Suddenly, Huo Qingqing spoke, frowning and pursing her lips softly, “Maybe we shouldn’t buy it after all.”
Ruan Tang was momentarily stunned, then looked down at Huo Qingqing, her voice gentle, “What’s wrong? Don’t you like it?”
Huo Qingqing frowned. “That lady is too pitiful. Let’s just let her be.”
The two sales clerks were speechless.
Ruan Tang couldn’t help but chuckle. When she looked back at the two clerks, a teasing glint flashed in her eyes. “What do you say?”
She had to buy the watch. Just hearing the unknown punishment for failing the task made her shudder.

The second sales clerk’s face darkened. Gritting her teeth, she slammed the glass counter. “Do you have money? If not, just listen to your daughter and get lost!”
A few days ago, she had her eye on a ladies’ diamond watch, but after spending the whole night with that useless old man, she was turned down, citing recent crackdowns, and gained nothing.
Today, encountering Ruan Tang and her daughter trying to buy a watch, her discomfort and lingering frustration became an outlet for venting at them.
Ruan Tang raised an eyebrow, reassured Huo Qingqing, then leisurely pulled out two hundred yuan in cash from her wallet, saying casually, “Let’s check out. Wrap that diamond watch I was looking at earlier.”
Almost instantly, the space around them fell so silent one could hear a pin drop.
Both sales clerks were stunned, staring dumbfounded at the two hundred yuan in Ruan Tang’s hand.
But the first clerk quickly snapped out of it, carefully retrieving the watch, wrapping it with care, and preparing change.
“Here is your diamond watch. Please take good care of it.”
She smiled politely, presenting the exquisite black box to Ruan Tang.
Ruan Tang glanced at the box, then affectionately patted Huo Qingqing, “Qingqing, you play with it first.”
It was just a diamond watch. Although she had picked it out initially, she decided to buy it only after Huo Qingqing nodded.
Huo Qingqing was momentarily stunned, looked at the box, then at Ruan Tang, before pursing her lips and accepting it.
Nearby, the first sales clerk was already sweating nervously. A diamond watch worth over a hundred yuan just handed over for their kid to play with—
Her scalp tingled with unease as she glanced at the second clerk.
The second clerk’s face had gone pale the moment she saw Ruan Tang pay with two hundred yuan.
Looking closely, her eyes were filled with panic and despair.
Ruan Tang casually turned to the second clerk. “No need to imitate a dog. Just apologize and bark a couple of times, and we’ll call it even.”
The second clerk trembled, forcing a smile more painful than tears.
“I’m sorry, miss—”
Ruan Tang fiddled with her nails, reminding her, “My surname is Ruan.”
The second clerk bit her lip. “Sorry, Miss Ruan. I shouldn’t have been rude to you. Please forgive my insolence!”
Then, with a grim determination, she closed her eyes and barked twice.
At that moment, several customers arrived, overhearing everything the second clerk said.
They looked at her with amusement, which only filled her heart with bitterness and indignation.
The anger and malice she had felt moments ago were completely dissipated by the unexpected two hundred yuan; only regret and awakening remained deep inside.

She clenched her teeth, staring into Ruan Tang’s cold, indifferent eyes, a fresh wave of resentment rising in her heart.

Thinking this, she felt a strange sense of relief and looked at Ruan Tang with malice.
Ruan Tang noticed, laughing softly. “Next time, don’t judge people through the lens of wealth. Maybe, like me, they just prefer to keep a low profile—”
Her words carried a subtle hint. The customers who had just entered heard it all. Though they may not have paid much attention at the moment, they would surely remember this scene. How the second sales clerk’s business would fare in the future was anyone’s guess.
The second clerk’s face froze on the spot.
Ruan Tang didn’t want to waste more breath. She still had to buy some daily necessities to take home and complete her task.
Taking Huo Qingqing, she left the store and rode to the supermarket, buying a mountain of groceries, food, drinks, and daily items.

The attendant waved it off with a simple smile. “No problem. Just remember to come here often to shop.”
Ruan Tang took note and turned to head home with Huo Qingqing.
The bumpy ride into the village drew many curious glances as people noticed the two baskets full of goods.
Someone couldn’t help but ask, “Has your husband, Yan Xiu, sent money back already?”
Buying so much, what a spendthrift woman.
Ruan Tang smiled briefly while riding. “Yan Xiu will be back in a few days.”
The person fell silent, watching Ruan Tang enter Huo Yanxiu’s red-brick house.
Sitting nearby was Huo Yanxiu’s elder sister-in-law, Lin Hui, who silently listened to the whole exchange. Soon after, she bade farewell and returned to the old Huo family residence.
