Chapter 30: Driven to a Dead End
The residents of the other units in the residential complex were noticeably more resentful. With no one to rely on and unable to even offer each other warmth, many were on the verge of a total breakdown.
Amidst the growing chorus of complaints, someone made a suggestion that silenced the group chat for several minutes.
"We have nowhere left to go anyway. I’m planning to head out to find food. Is anyone coming with me?"
This person had floated the same idea a few days ago, but at that time, people had not yet reached the end of their rope.
Although the variety of ingredients was limited, Du Jiajia always managed to come up with ingenious, unconventional ways to prepare them. Yet, in the end, with so little to work with, there was only so much she could do to change the flavor.
"Don't talk nonsense. What does that have to do with me?" Lin Aotian had no desire to get involved in such messy affairs. His priority was to meet Huangfu Xingyun and have him go to Jiangcheng to take charge of everything there.
"Five songs. They were originally meant for them to sing, but for certain reasons, I’ve decided to perform them myself. After all, these songs are meant to make money, and I’m not splitting the profits. It wouldn't be right to keep making them work for free," Tang Zhichu said with a laugh.
This put Luo Hongyan in a difficult position. If she were to demand the sword by force, she would surely gain nothing without a weapon of her own. She might even incite the man’s lust, landing herself in the danger of losing her virtue.
Yu Yuan secretly observed Chen Mu’s expression. Judging by the situation just now, it was clear that this senior was the one in charge.
Xiang Hanhe and his wife stepped out and pushed Shui Miao inside. After all, she was a young lady; there was no point in arguing with a brute like that—she had her reputation to consider.
Facing the objections raised by Han Xing, beads of sweat appeared on Zhou Shu’s forehead, and in the end, he failed to provide any compelling answer.
"The authorities are worried that if word gets out, everyone will try to imitate the Great Sage, so they’ve kept the news under wraps. Besides, given his combat prowess, no one dared to officially sentence him. In the end, after discussions among various parties, they just sent him to a mental hospital."
Even if everyone had originally just forwarded the message casually, it was inevitable that some would start to think, "Maybe this is actually true."
Managing to drag himself through to the break, Ye Fan was busy chatting with his roommates when he suddenly noticed Sun Jiaqi’s gaze fixed intently on the space behind him, as if he were on the verge of drooling.
Su Chen nodded, though he felt a sense of surprise in his heart. He felt that Leng Yun seemed different today; she appeared to have shed some of her usual cold arrogance.
The lead wolf took a slight step back. Lin Wan felt the pressure ease a little; she quietly exhaled and gently wiped the sweat from her forehead.
He dragged Jin Yi along with almost manic energy, pulling her down from the city wall in full view of everyone and ducking into a sand-brick building near the ramparts.
Jiang Xian had made up her mind to ignore Li Qian, but hearing him speak like that, she couldn't help but feel angry. She walked forward without saying a word.
Wu Xingchuan pondered for a moment before speaking in a measured tone: "There are rumors from the Imperial Capital that the Fifth Prince died under mysterious circumstances." As the manager of a large pharmacy, he was well-connected, as the resident doctors frequently traveled to other regions to exchange medical techniques, leading to a constant flow of information. There was little doubt that the event had truly occurred.
Next was a pot of narcissus; it was November, and the shoots were only a finger’s length long, looking no better than cloves of garlic.
Liefeng and Yinhun helped Zhao Mingjin to his room to rest, while Qingtong and Bing'er busied themselves tidying up. Fang Ju held a large bundle, taking the pastries that Bing'er had just made to the kitchen to be steamed, with Tong Xinyan following along to help.
No one knew how long they remained entangled like that, but the fire of desire between them burned ever brighter. In the darkness, aside from their heavy, ragged breathing, there was the sound of their hearts pounding like thunder, beating in a chaotic rhythm. Just before things spiraled out of control, Sheng Jintian and Jin Yi finally pulled apart.
However, he was a man of little influence and was new to the Sheng family. Although he had expressed his suspicions about this person to the Old Madam Sheng several times, she did not take them to heart. Instead, she grew to trust this "divine man" even more, allowing him free access to the Sheng estate and replacing the original servants with people of his own choosing.
