Confusion clouded Shen Shuhe’s mind.

Had Pei Jingmo completely lost his mind over this relationship? How could he possibly force all the blame onto her?

Moreover, Song Qingyin hadn’t told her that she was the one who encouraged Xiaoyu to apologize.

“Pei Jingmo, I don’t think I can communicate with you.”

“No matter how I handle today’s matter, it seems you will always find faults and dissatisfaction with me.”

“But I want to say one last time: Xiaoyu is my biological son. I care for him just as much as you do. I asked him to apologize out of respect for him. I don’t think I did anything wrong.”

“No one anticipated that woman would resort to violence—after all, I’m not a prophet.”

“Lastly, take Xiaoyu to get checked out and remember to apply some medicine.”

After saying this, Shen Shuhe pushed Pei Jingmo aside and bent down to slip into the driver’s seat.

She started the engine and drove off swiftly.

On the way, the more Shen Shuhe thought about it, the angrier she became. She really should have slapped him just now!

That thought filled her with regret, ruining her sleep that night as she dreamed of hitting Pei Jingmo.

...

Pei Jingmo inhaled a deep breath of exhaust fumes, his face growing even darker.

Shen Shuhe had really tested his patience lately, turning her back on him at every turn.

“Jingmo, didn’t you have a proper talk with Miss Shen?” Song Qingyin approached, holding Xiaoyu, after Shen Shuhe had left.

“Don’t mention her,” Pei Jingmo said without answering, then turned to Xiaoyu. “Does it still hurt?”

Xiaoyu’s tears had stopped, but his eyes were still red.

He nodded, “It hurts!”

“Xiaokai’s mother’s grip was really strong!”

Hearing this, Song Qingyin grew more anxious and quickly said, “Jingmo, let’s take Xiaoyu to get checked out.”

Pei Jingmo nodded grimly.

At the hospital.

After the examination confirmed no further issues, the doctor prescribed an anti-inflammatory ointment.

The three returned to the garage.

Song Qingyin placed Xiaoyu in the child seat and opened the passenger door.

Pei Jingmo got in but didn’t start the car immediately. Instead, he suddenly said, “Qingyin, don’t do that again.”

“Hm? Jingmo, what do you mean?” Song Qingyin paused, fastening her seatbelt.

Pei Jingmo propped his elbow on the window and turned to look at her. “My son doesn’t have to bow to anyone.”

His words made Song Qingyin realize exactly what he meant.

He disapproved of her asking Xiaoyu to apologize.

She glanced sideways at Xiaoyu in the backseat, pursed her lips, and apologized first. “Sorry, Jingmo. I didn’t consider your feelings this time.”

“I just wanted Xiaoyu to make peace with his classmate.”

From the beginning, Pei Jingmo hadn’t placed many demands on her regarding her relationship with Xiaoyu.

He brought Xiaoyu closer to himself, and Song Qingyin quickly understood Pei Jingmo’s intentions.

So she devoted herself wholeheartedly to Xiaoyu.

She only hoped that both father and son would like, accept, and even rely on her.

As for today’s incident, even if Shen Shuhe hadn’t come, she would have suggested a reconciliation with Xiaokai’s mother to make the two children reconcile.

However, she still miscalculated.

She hadn’t expected Jingmo to be so firm on this matter.

Song Qingyin recalled the unpleasant scene between him and Shen Shuhe earlier.

Could it be that Pei Jingmo’s attitude toward her today was influenced by Shen Shuhe?

Her gaze shifted slightly.

Suppressing her complex and tangled thoughts, she softened her voice and apologized again, “Jingmo, I apologize to you and Xiaoyu. From now on, I will do my best to protect Xiaoyu. There won’t be a repeat of today’s situation.”

Pei Jingmo didn’t truly blame her.

He simply felt that his son shouldn’t suffer injustice and hurt for no reason.

“Enough. Don’t overthink it. This has nothing to do with you.” Pei Jingmo turned sideways to fasten her seatbelt and patted her shoulder in comfort. “From now on, neither you nor Xiaoyu should ever let yourselves be wronged.”

“Understood?”

Song Qingyin grabbed his hand and smiled brightly, nodding. “Okay.”

In the backseat, Xiaoyu said, “Got it, Dad. I’ll protect Mommy Qingyin well from now on!”

Hearing this, Song Qingyin reached back and pinched his cheek.

Because Xiaoyu was frightened today and didn’t want to part from Song Qingyin, Pei Jingmo took Xiaoyu directly to Tianjing Garden, where Song Qingyin was staying.

...

Meanwhile, on her way back, Shen Shuhe received a call from Wen Yu.

She said the lawyer she had arranged to meet was available tonight and wanted to see her.

Upon hearing this, Shen Shuhe told her she was already outside and could come.

Wen Yu agreed and gave Shen Shuhe the address.

Shen Shuhe glanced at it and keyed it into her navigation, heading straight for the restaurant.

Half an hour later, Shen Shuhe ran into Wen Yu, who was bustling about at the entrance.

“Hey, Shuhe, you’re here too. Let’s go in together.”

The two linked arms and stepped up the stairs.

Shen Shuhe suddenly remembered, “Is this lawyer your friend?”

“...Not exactly,” Wen Yu replied vaguely, “You know, in my line of work, I often have to deal with lawyers. It’s just... a few professional contacts.”

Hearing this, Shen Shuhe didn’t press further.

Probably just a casual acquaintance.

As they chatted, the two went up to the second floor.

A waiter approached with a polite smile. “Do you have a reservation for two?”

Wen Yu replied, “Yes...” Then she scanned the room, her gaze settling on a table diagonally to the right. She pointed. “There.”

The waiter promptly led them over.

Just as they approached, the only man at the table rose early.

Shen Shuhe looked and was taken aback, her calm eyes reflecting surprise.

She had expected the lawyer introduced by Wen Yu to be a seasoned veteran of the business world, or a stern elite, or a mature man with rich experience.

She never imagined it would be a handsome, refined young man.

Indeed, in the entertainment industry, they would call this kind of man a “pretty boy.”

The young man looked freshly graduated, with delicate features, wearing a black suit and appearing scholarly.

When he spoke, he was exactly as Shen Shuhe had imagined.

“Miss Wen, Miss Shen, hello,” the young man extended his right hand. “I’m Qi Zijin. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”

Shen Shuhe immediately shook his hand. “Hello, Mr. Qi.”

Glancing down, she noticed that during the handshake, the man only grasped her fingertips, and his left hand gently rested just below his right wrist.

Her first impression of him was favorable.

After the handshake, Qi Zijin’s gaze shifted to Wen Yu.

Wen Yu casually pinched his fingertips and said, “Hello.” Then she pulled out a chair and sat down.

Qi Zijin looked at Wen Yu deeply and, after Shen Shuhe sat down, pulled out a chair and took a seat.

None of the three liked to waste words, so after ordering two drinks, Qi Zijin opened his laptop and got straight to the point, beginning to discuss matters with Shen Shuhe.

During the conversation, Wen Yu quietly scrolled through her phone, occasionally replying to work messages.

The discussion lasted nearly an hour.

Wen Yu grew bored waiting.

She closed her phone, looked at the two still talking, rested her chin on her hand, glanced around the room, and couldn’t help but yawn.

Soon after, she pressed her stomach.

Opposite her, Qi Zijin noticed her little movements and glanced at the time.

“Miss Shen, I have a clear understanding now,” Qi Zijin said. “Your situation is relatively easy to handle. I’ll draft the documents and send them to you.”

“It’s getting late. Let’s eat first.”
