Volume 1, Chapter 32: The Red Alarm Sounds
She tied up her hair and began brushing her teeth and washing her face. Just as she finished, the doorbell rang again.
The Xue family had been around for hundreds of years and had seen everything; for someone to be so desperate over a painting of the Medicine King—there must be something fishy. Lin Yuan always felt this painting could not be handled lightly. She had asked Lu Yang about it, but he was too lazy to explain, merely telling her that he possessed a unique way of perceiving things.
Luo Ling’s eyes were red as she knelt beside Yang Fan. She had never imagined that Yang Fan’s family had all died only a short time ago. He must have been suffering so deeply inside. He was a man who felt such agony over the death of a blacksmith; how could he possibly bear such pain?
The kind and amiable CEO from the morning was gone, replaced once again by the cold, harsh workaholic who tormented them until they were utterly broken.
He Xiaoling watched the old man with great interest. Although the lyrics were simple, they captured a sense of boldness and freedom, and as he sang them with a lingering melody, they easily stirred the listener's heart.
Qin Qingqiao could not yet determine whether the images of the church were real or merely a creation of the nightmare beast.
Fu Shiyi had reported to him before boarding the plane; he had likely flown straight here after finishing his call with Fu Shiyi.
Yang Fan draped an arm over He Xiaoling’s shoulder, looking every bit like a good brother, though He Xiaoling appeared somewhat unnatural. It was the first time a man had put his arm around her like that in broad daylight.
I do not want to be further entangled with them; I just hate their attitude—as if I have married into a wealthy family and they are entitled to take whatever they want, and as if I am obligated to bear the burden whenever something happens to them.
If one were to speak of true understanding, Yan Qing was certain that Ji Sijun’s depths were unfathomable—so deep that the only person capable of understanding him was himself.
The next day, a drizzling rain continued to fall. The gloomy weather made Bai Qian unable to help but let out a sigh.
Finally, as Mu Ling’s white piece fell, all the pieces on the board vanished into nothingness without a sound. At the same time, the white dragon tore the black dragon to shreds.
Five-year-old Kong Xinrou’s greatest strength was her eloquence; her greatest weakness was that she was too long-winded.
In the silence, He Yan opened her eyes soundlessly. Fu Shenxing’s breathing behind her was steady and long. One arm rested loosely across her waist, his muscles relaxed; it was clear he was truly fast asleep.
Xiao Yun, usually so overbearing, was acting uncharacteristically, sitting on the sofa and sobbing quietly, her eyes red and swollen like walnuts.
Mother Bai continued to hold her tissues while watching an idol drama. It was no surprise that she would shed a few tears during the tragic parts; she would stop crying soon enough.
Last night, He Mengxi had stayed out quite late, but Xu Jiayin had returned earlier. Huo Yanbin had even run into her when he left.
The phone rang several times without a sound. Unexpectedly, Huo Yanbin’s phone stopped ringing, and Su Meng’s mobile began to chime.
The Heavenly King was subjected to an unprecedented, frenzied barrage the moment he approached. His red monk’s robe and wide sleeves were instantly shredded into fluttering scraps, scattering into the air.
“A gentleman does not covet what others love. Since you spotted it first, you should have it,” Wang Qi said gentlemanly.
“This is a very free world. You can imagine what you would do if you were in such an environment,” Zhao Hao, who had noticed them, walked over with a smile.
That night, Long Tian drifted into a hazy sleep. In his dreams, his brother’s voice appeared once more—sometimes seeming close at hand, yet other times as distant as the ends of the earth.
“Who… who is trying to scare you? I… I was just reminding you,” Bai Ziqiu said, feeling embarrassed by Wang Qi’s words and sensing that he shouldn't have acted that way.
The assassin did not seem at all worried about Jiang Dahao making contact with the outside world. He focused entirely on giving directions as the Audi bumped along the rugged path, entering the mountain forest area where the terrain gradually rose, accompanied by constant jolting.
It was not enough—not enough, absolutely not enough. I hadn’t yet felt that sense of vertigo! I needed to be closer, even closer—closer to death, death… letting death come more clearly, more sharply, more bone-deep.
However, this was not worship; it was merely a desire for the battle to be more spectacular and for more blood to bloom.
When Tie Jin learned that Tu Shan’s entire family had been wiped out without a single survivor, he was consumed by rage. Upon hearing that Dean had personally ordered the hit, he vomited blood and collapsed on the spot.
As it was early spring, the temperature in Afghanistan was below ten degrees. Suddenly climbing out of warm blankets only to be drenched with water, all the trainees began to shiver uncontrollably. Yet, even so, they gritted their teeth and persisted, holding their bodies taut as a line.
When she arrived at the familiar door, the sky had already turned dark. It seemed an electric light had been strung up in the courtyard, casting a yellowish glow. Mu Chun took a deep breath and knocked on the door.
Answering the call was a middle-aged-looking burly man, who carried a pair of giant hammers in his hands—the heads were four or five times the size of a human head.
The moment Shen Mu threw the spirit talisman, he lunged out like a cheetah, heading straight for the man in black. He had used his only offensive talisman to pin the man down; Shen Mu would not hesitate to deal with someone who attacked for no reason.
“Tyrant!” Anan Wuzang roared in the third universe. The might of the soul beast swept across everything, causing all the wandering spirits to tremble. In the Ghost Mulberry Kingdom, countless spirits were shattered and swallowed by Anan Wuzang in a single gulp.
Li Yuanming had simply forwarded the relevant information to the central control room. He had not expected the staff to be so efficient; of the twenty-three locations marked with red dots, not a single person had escaped.
As for the iceberg Qi Xiao, he wouldn't even need to strike; one would be frozen into an ice sculpture by the waves of cold air radiating from him.
But there was no other way. This guy was too strong; he couldn't win no matter what he did. If he didn't agree, he would be subjected to all kinds of humiliation. To get a good night’s sleep tonight, he had no choice but to swallow his pride and wait for Lin Yang to leave the Huawu Sect and return to Jiangnan.
