Chapter Six: Is It Really That Simple to Placate a Woman?
“Sir, madam said she needed to buy some things, so she discharged herself early. Didn’t she tell you?”
The driver was puzzled.
In the past, madam and sir were undoubtedly the most devoted couple in the Beijing-Hong Kong circle.
Even small matters like informing each other of their whereabouts had become routine.
Fei Jing sighed upon hearing this and waved his hand. “Nan Nan has left. She’s still sulking with me. Drive on; I’ll comfort her well tonight. She’ll be fine.”
In his eyes, Lu Tian had always been like this—cold and aloof to outsiders, yet bright and joyful whenever he showed her a bit of tenderness, sometimes keeping her awake all night.
The driver nodded and started the car.
Upstairs in the villa, Lu Youyou was almost all skin and bone except for her stomach area.
She limped downstairs.
A servant sneered upon seeing her. “Miss Lu, know your place. You’re nothing but a mistress’s plaything. Don’t get too arrogant.”
Plaything?
Mistress?!
No, Lu Youyou was absolutely no one’s plaything.
Fei Jing loved her.
Otherwise, with so many women in the circle vying for this man, why was she the only one who succeeded?
“Yes! It must be because Lu Tian is a barren hen blocking my path. She has to die!”
Thunder rumbled—
A torrential rain disrupted the rhythm of the entire city.
By the time Lu Tian reached the city’s largest indoor amusement park according to Fei Jing’s location, night had fully fallen.
Her phone warned of low battery, about to shut down.
The last unknown message she saw contained only the words “Mom.”
Probably a scam.
The screen went dark.
Lu Tian squeezed her purse, took a deep breath, and hurried inside.
Suddenly, the amusement park, quite large in size, lit up brilliantly.
Countless limited-edition balloons shaped like bubble marbles descended from above.
Right ahead, Fei Jing stood holding a bouquet of Nan Nan’s favorite blue hydrangeas, his handsome face gentle and warm.
His pure white suit accentuated his tall, long-legged, and captivating figure.
“Wife, I know the company’s been too busy lately, and I haven’t had time to properly accompany you. Sorry, don’t be upset, okay?”
As his words settled, the passionate embrace that Lu Tian once treasured, filled with the most straightforward love, came rushing toward her.
But the next moment, she instinctively stepped aside, suppressing a rising wave of nausea in her stomach, forcing a smile.
“Wife…” Fei Jing looked flustered.
Lu Tian’s stiff smile barely lifted her lips, her voice hoarse. “Let’s go on the roller coaster. By the way, there’s a document to sign—a charity fund set up for Nan Nan. Could you sign it first?”
She handed him a document dozens of pages long.
“I marked the signature spots in pencil. You don’t need to read it, just sign.”
After seven years of marriage, Fei Jing’s trust in her had only grown.
She trusted him too.
Unfortunately, that trust was ultimately repaid with betrayal—his infidelity.
Fei Jing, unsuspecting, picked up the pen, about to sign…
“Ah, big brother, isn’t that my brother-in-law? What a coincidence! Sister, are you here with your husband too?”
Just a second before the signature, Lu Youyou’s sweet and coy voice interrupted abruptly.
Accompanying her as her protector was none other than Lu Tian’s own elder brother, Lu Zhi, whom she had painstakingly mended their relationship with for over twenty years.
Lu Zhi nodded politely to Fei Jing, holding Lu Youyou’s hand as he said, “We siblings owe General Fei our gratitude for helping Youyou return home.”
“Yes, sister, you don’t know. Without the private detectives my brother-in-law sent, how could a lone orphan like me ever stand equal with you and live well?”
Lu Youyou spoke blankly and innocently, as if utterly guileless.
Her left hand continuously caressed her still-flat belly.
So arrogant!
Listening to their rehearsed harmony, an indescribable chill surged wildly from Lu Tian’s feet to her head.
So it was Fei Jing—the very husband she had loved with all her soul—who brazenly let Lu Youyou enter the Lu family and seize everything that belonged to her.
“Lu Youyou, shut up!”
Fei Jing noticed the frightening pallor on Lu Tian’s face.
He growled softly, anxiously pulling her into his arms, hurriedly explaining, “Wife, I did find her, that’s true, but it’s not what you think. Don’t jump to conclusions.”
“Not what I think? Fei Jing, what do you think I’m thinking?”
They say when one feels guilty, the truth slips out easiest.
That single sentence left the shrewd young master of the business world speechless.
“Forget it.”
Lu Tian broke free from Fei Jing’s embrace, flashed a faint smile at Lu Youyou, “Secretary Lu is quite diligent. Wherever her boss is, she must serve. I’ll have my husband give you a raise as a reward.”
With that, she snatched back the unfinished documents from Fei Jing’s hand and turned to leave.
Each step made the world spin wildly.
Her throat tightened, as if she could cough up blood at any moment.
Behind her, Fei Jing viciously kicked Lu Youyou aside and chased after Lu Tian.
“Ah! W-what do I do? My stomach hurts so much, and I’m bleeding…”
Outside the fairy-tale indoor amusement park Fei Jing had created,
The drizzle was light but persistent.
Lu Tian had no umbrella, and no one was there to shelter her from the storm like before.
Because the man who had promised her a lifetime together was now busy comforting his lover.
Passersby pointed and whispered, “Look at those two women. Earlier, one seemed to have stomach pains from her period, and her husband was frantic. Even her own brother looked like he was about to cry.”
“And look at the other—tsk, different people, different fates. No one loves her. How pitiful.”
Suddenly, a spurt of blood sprayed onto a utility pole, shocking onlookers.
Half the crowd scattered in fear.
A Rolls-Royce sped past on the roadside.
The window rolled down.
Lu Youyou lay on it, smug and disdainful, flipping off Lu Tian, who was collapsed in a pool of blood in the street, silently mouthing, “Old woman, I win. You’re a loser no one wants. Go to hell!”
“Oh no, she’s fainted. Call an ambulance!”
“Mom!!!”
Just as Lu Tian was about to lose consciousness completely, she once again heard a familiar childish voice.
Was it a hallucination?
Was her precious Nan Nan worried about her?
The crowd parted, and a figure radiating overwhelming presence enveloped her.
A faint mint scent mingled with just the right amount of woody spices, wrapping the weak and dying Lu Tian entirely.
Faintly, she seemed to hear a little girl crying and asking, “Daddy, why does Mommy always get hurt by others? Boohoo, can we take Mommy home, please?”
